    I really do see a pretty good chance of China imploding at some point. They have a real demographic problem, not enough young people, and their economy is slowing down fast. Recession or depression in a one billion plus country could be a real issue.

    Exactly. China's baby boomers are retiring just like ours are. Over 70% of their retirement investments were in real estate as that is how they were forced to invest by the Chinese govt. They have 1.5 - 3 BILLION never occupied condos. Their value will be nearly worthless. How will the Chinese retirees ever hope to survive on nothing from the bulk of their own investments?

    Their economy is tanking. Their demography is in free fall. They've stopped collecting data so no one knows how bad things really are.

    Soon, we (and everybody else) won't have a choice to decouple. It'll be forced down our throats.

    PS - In comparison the US has about 15.1 million vacant homes as of about six (6) monthes ago. (https://usafacts.org/articles/how-many-vacant-homes-are-there-in-the-us/)
