500 yards with my .308 bolt gun the first week after it was built:
    500yards.jpg

Kind of hard to see but there are 4/5 hits on this 12" steel which was set at 1200 yards. Shot with my IRA-10D gas gun with plenty of witnesses:

melensdad - I just want to know...What did Barney do to you!?

It is what Barney did to everyone. One of the great gaming memories I have is replacing one of the bosses in Doom with Barney. The sounds were replaced with "I love you.... You love mee...."

I loved blowing that purple SOB up with a rocket launcher.

    5 shot @ 100 yards after adjustment Hornady 168 A-MAX

My first Sub-Moa group. I finally purchased some 53gr Sierra Matchking bullets and loaded up some varying rounds. 24.9gr of H335 at 100 yards produced this grouping shooting off the bipod.

    Here is my submission.

This is a 300 yard group. It's around 1 1/2 inch. Either way, it's sub moa.

I'll get to 1,000 soon. Hopefully.................

The shooting position on the left is mine.

Come on Byron...is that the BEST you can do??

Hehe, you're kidding right? No visible forward rest/bipod, no visible rear rest/beanbag, 300 yards 1.5"..... I'd say thats some pretty steady shooting aside from that one low left flier!

Sure I had a forward rest and a rear rest. The forward rest was the rifle case and the hill I'm shooting on. The rear rest is my left hand balled up and under the stock.

The low left flier was getting the wind dialed in. Once I got the dope for the wind I shot for a group. I rarely shoot for groups anymore. I'm just trying to get to 1,000 so we just shoot at steel.

To further my reasoning for how I shoot. This was taken from the recent article posted in the tactics and training forum. WARRIOR TALK NEWS - The Guerrilla Sniper Revisited

"While bipods are handy on the range, we did not see many guys use them once we got off the range. Having one will not hurt, and most of my rifles do, but learn to shoot off your ruck sack as well as that will be most useful for field shooting.
Develop a good sitting position too since few shots can be taken from prone in the field."
I shoot from a hill in the woods. I carry my rifle back to the range so I can't have 50lbs of crap just to shoot. My rifle case is my shooting mat. Everything I need (data book, ammo, rest (hodgon bottle that holds ammo or rifle case), shooting mat, bore snake) is all inside my rifle case.

Aww you know I am just busting yoru chops Byron. I know you are a GREAT shot. FAR better than I am right now. (and my performance at the NPCCC steel match yesterday only goes to reinforce that point) I would LOVE to have the gun, time, and location to be able to shoot out to 1000 yards.

    Ok, I'll play.
    Sierra140.jpg

Stevens 200 barreled action shooting Sierra 140gr ProHunters over 40.0gr's of H4895 @100 off a bipod. No rear bag. The Hornady 139's shoot into 3/4 of an inch with a max load of H4350, but the cost per shot is almost 50% more so i've settled on this particular load for now.

When i start buying the 139's in quantities of 1000 and powder in 8lb jugs it won't matter.
