OK, AOC is victim of far left crap, but at least she's not a white supremacist, NAZI, Qanon, or any of the other far right crazy that's advocating rape, murder, war, government overthrow, concentration camps, wiping out the older folks & people of color by not doing anything about COVID, etc.
In this country, you are 1,700 times more likely to be murdered by a white supremacist than a radical islam follower or communist...
I'm WAY more worried about 'Proud Boys', Qanon believer, mass shooter than a 'Communist'.
WOW, just wow. Where does this BS come from?
Your telling us that the .00001% of right leaning citizens that might actually believe those things is causing all that?

Please cite your source of this fiction and go back under whatever America-hating, communist rock you crawled out from.

Representative Alexandra Ocasio Cortez was hiding in Representative Katie Porter's office for many hours during the insurrection. Representative Katie Porter's office is listed as being 1117 Longworth HOB Washington, DC 20515. That doesn't appear to be in the Dome itself, but it's logical to assume that the surrounding buildings would have gone on high security alert, as well.

One only needs to read some of the comments in this thread for evidence of how wide the division is.

I'll probably get heat from saying this here, but I really do feel we need to start bridging that divide; this "us versus them" mentality in this country is going to be our undoing. "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" and "be the change you want to see" are quotes I often think of in this context, as well as that we all share much more in common with each other than we do our differences.
It is disingenuous to want to call a halt after you have achieved your desired results, and profess to wish to 'bridge the divide' in order to shore up the permanence of the steal

I would choose to wait for the pretenders (Biden/Harris) to be deposed and then call on you to 'bridge the divide', as I'm sure the response would be educational

I had a response to @JeepHammer's post, but I see @churchmouse notice. Can I at least say the following, under the context of some of what Representative Alexandria Cortez relayed during her Instagram talk? If it's not on-topic, I will happily remove; I'm here to discuss, not to cause conflict.

I've had a couple long term relationships with women who have been the victims of sexual assault and it is utterly heart-breaking, not only to hear of something so horrible happening to someone you love, but to also witness the lasting trauma it leaves on a person. As a male, I will never be able to understand what women go through. Never. I'll tell ya what, though, I will do everything in my power to listen, trust, and provide any support I can. It's the least I can do.

For reference, @Romero Zombie got this information from The Washington Post.

I'm trying to find The Washington Post's version for Former President Barack Obama, as I think that's only fair.

The best I can do is Politifact, which has a substantially less number of recorded statements than The Washington Post, but has articles for both Former Presidents.

Politifact for Former President Barack Obama.
Politifact for Former President Donald Trump.

Here's the undisputed fact I hope we all can agree on: all politicians lie to some degree. It pretty much seems it's part of their job description. :dunno:
Interesting that you would feel that anything put out by WaPo or Politifact would be 'evidence' of anything other than what talking points they have been given that particular week

I would love to see the standards applied to Trump on this, such things as saying you ate a candy bar being classed as a lie because it wasn't a candy bar it was a Milky Way, applied to the current whitehouse placeholder

I must assume that 600 million vaccine doses at two per recipient protects 300 Americans should be classified as a lie, yes?

Good to have someone *Slightly Off* rather than ego maniacs promoting mass murder.

The premise of the thread has been disproven, it's a lie.
She was in the capitol building during the terrorist invasion.

How does that work with the idea she was lying?

“We just got seventy five million votes. And that's a record in the history of in the history of sitting presidents.”

    Repeated 19 times
    Show details
When the counting was finished, Trump had received 74 million votes, not 75 million as he often claims — but Biden earned more than 81 million. That’s a margin of 4.5 percentage points. Biden’s margin in the popular vote is larger than Barack Obama’s victory in 2012 and George W. Bush’s victory in 2004. Trump ignores the fact that more Americans voted in the 2020 election — two-thirds of the voting eligible population — than in any other in 120 years. A big reason is Trump himself. Trump was the most polarizing president in modern political history, inspiring fierce loyalty from Republicans and deep hostility from Democrats.
An example of the 'quality' of the counting by WaPo. It is not in dispute that Trump got the most votes ever by a sitting president. Notice how they make a big deal about 74 million being more accurate than 75 million, when whichever you use, the assertion is still correct. You can look it up yourself if you have any doubts

Then they go on about how Biden got even more, which has nothing to do with the discussion at hand and is just an attempt to cast aspersions on what is manifestly true

This "well, XXXX does that so, it's OK!" is what I hate; no matter which way it comes from.

I don't give a leap about what Qanon or PB, or... AOC is a liar promoting a bad political agenda; she needs to be unequivocally be called out for it.
That is the entire point of this thread. Yet those with the same ill planned and poorly executed agenda's twist and turn and deviate to prove the TDS is still a real thing. Stage 4 being near terminal.

Phylodog is spot on. There are fundamental differences primarily caused by the effectiveness of communist propaganda upon a segment of our society. From the 1950s till today this nation's enemies have sought to undermine a country who wielded increasing power. This nation's danger to them was not one of conquest, but rather one of ideas. The concepts of individual liberty, responsibility, opportunity to pursue an individual's passion and desire is a danger to all forms of government which are based upon totalitarian, authoritarian, control, and collectivisation.

While our enemies had success in their propaganda efforts they lost the war with the collapse of the Soviet Union. This nation however failed to recognize that the failure of the Soviet Union did not magically make those state organs focused on destroying the United States go away. They simply found new masters and new sources of money.

Of late I have often thought back to Ronald Reagan and the "open mic" incident wherein he said something along the lines of we start bombing in 5 minutes directed at the then Soviet Union. Reagan and many of his inner circle understood the danger of the Soviet Union and communism. He was willing to actually try to win. Yes he fed the military industrial complex, but he also understood that communism wherever it existed represented a continuing and existential threat to liberty. Any nation which existed under communist ideology was a threat to this nation and needed to be turned toward liberty and rule of law.

Unfortunately while the United States did win some battles, we failed to recognize the risks and dangers that some of our own technology represented. The internet and the rise of social media were fertile grounds for the propagandist. Bits do not recognize national borders. Our enemies efforts and success in our educational systems, Hollywood, and mainstream media were an excellent foundation for their jumping off point in the utilization of social media. Our children were quickly turned against the most foundational of this nation's ideals in a matter of a few years.

The divisions we see today are those sown by this nation's enemies, and all too happily promoted by organizations which were only able to come into existence because they were founded in the United States.

Today, the risk is there are not enough American citizens who actually know and understand our founding documents and the ideals behind them to keep a functional democratic republic based upon the ideals of individual liberty and opportunity alive. We have become balkanized to the point where the portion of our population who can read the Constitution in the context of the contemporaneous documents, recognize and believe in the ideals represented, and act to keep them alive are rapidly becoming a minority.

Reviewing the Communist Party's (I now refer to the Democratic Party as the Communist Party, they do not deserve the cover of another name) platform it is obvious that one of our parties believe in an authoritarian regime of collectivization. When you strip out the meaningless language, and all of the TDS, you are left with policies which are collectivist, redistributionist, and to be charitable totalitarian. It is the party of "we know what is best for you". A position which is quite literally antithetical to the most foundational principles of this republic. https://democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/08/2020-Democratic-Party-Platform.pdf

I read an article in the New York Post this morning regarding a father's issues with the way his children were being taught in the New York City school system. It was disturbing. What was described was abject propaganda against the very nation where the school and the teachers live. These behaviors are not an aberration. They are the result of decades of manipulation and propaganda operating almost unchecked in our educational system and entertainment industry.

Can our division be checked, or better yet reversed? Frankly in the absence of events that I don't even want to consider I do not believe so. In all probability our future is that of Venezuela. Any change in trajectory would require an almost Pearl harbor like moment to draw the American people together again. Frankly I don't believe our enemies are that stupid, because they're winning anyway.

Could we reach a new direction without violence? I don't see how so long as our media both new and old are aligned with this nation's enemies domestic and foreign. It would require a concerted effort to re-educate and reinvigorate all of our citizens knowledge of this nation's founding, and its foundational documents.

Unfortunately, outside of this forum and those like it, I find few of my fellow Americans who can remember when they last read the Constitution. I find fewer still who actually read all of it, and have any clue as to what all of the Bill of Rights conveys or what the preamble to the Bill of Rights says. I can count on my hands the number of people I have met who have read any contemporaneous works, even to the point of having skimmed them. (And I am no scholar of the Constitution)

In the absence of even the most basic understanding of our nation's founding principles there's little hope of the nation continuing on that basis. This then is the fundamental problem nearly half, maybe more, of our nation's citizens have no clue what we are. They are consumed by identity politics and emotional reactions. They view the Constitution as an anachronism that needs to be " reinterpreted ".

The other roughly half of our nation's citizens, do believe in the Constitution as it was written and understand it at least conceptually on the basis of its contemporaneous documents. We recognize that the nation has grown up and that phrases like all men are created equal, now mean just that and also apply to females (or whatever other gender you happen to think you are).

And so very much Phylodog's point is true. when a portion of a society chooses to believe things which are objectively lies about our nation, its founding documents and ideals, and have a fluid concept of truth there really is no way to come together.

I had sincere hopes in the first two years of President Trump's term that our nation would change direction. Legislators from both sides of the aisle had the opportunity to work with someone who was objectively an America first leader. I'm not going to pretend that I trusted his understanding of the Constitution but he was better than many we had had since Reagan in that regard. There was an opportunity to encourage national service, universal firearms safety and marksmanship training, enforcement of the Bill of Rights across all states, and a host of other opportunities which were squandered. Our legislators failed the nation and their constituents, regardless of which party they allied themselves too. Instead we were treated to two years of dawdling and misdirection, followed by a 2-year assault upon the president of the United States via an abusive investigation based upon lies.

Now we find ourselves worse off in regards to unity, and adherence to this nation's values than we were at any time in my memory. If we are lucky, we will be treated to a rerun of the Jimmy Carter administration with increasing inflation, stagflation, a rapidly declining economy, high unemployment, and a further erosion of confidence in the United States by other nations along with a gutted military.

This nation's enemies are elated. Those enemies, China Russia North Korea and all others who wish to see a weekend United States, applaud the actions of the communist party, Facebook, Twitter, Google, and all the rest. Their well taught useful idiots, groomed in our nation's universities and by our mainstream media outlets, have acted just as they were trained. Right down to violence in the streets, burning looting and murdering while wearing their communist and socialist slogans. I am sure our enemies are quite impressed with their success.

Many of our citizens should go look in a mirror and ask themselves what nation they stand for. Unfortunately when you don't know the foundational principles of a nation it is all too easy to convince yourself based solely upon the propaganda you have been fed but you stand for one, but not the one you're standing in.

And that is how a nation of free men disappears from this earth.

P.S. Costco back in the book section has a book with an American flag on the front with a selection of documents from this nation's history. While I find some of the chosen documents to be questionable many are spot on. It includes Ben Franklin's Dogood letters, Patrick Henry's speech to the Virginia Commons, the declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and a host of others. I highly encourage everyone to pick up a copy. I'm up to the Constitution, and I want to make sure I read it again slowly. When I'm done with it I'll leave it on one of my children's nightstand for the next time they're home. They won't read it, but at least maybe it will raise their curiosity.

Secession is at the very heart of those documents.

Too bad it is so quickly dismissed today.
