I zipped into the post office this morning and forgot to leave my jacket in the car.

Do you wear your jacket into the post office or do you disrobe to mail letters?

It's not impossible to run into a postal inspector on the customer area of a post office. And they do not wear uniforms, just sayin.

I'm put it on par with being struck by a meteor while holding the winning Powerball ticket.

The only other person in my family in law enforcement is a great uncle who's a retired postal inspector. When he started, they didn't even carry guns and it was mostly fraud and mail theft investigations. They got armed sometime in the late 80s, IIRC, when dope-by-mail got to be a thing they were spending a lot of time on. When he retired, he said his case load was 50% dope by mail and 50% child porn.

There were so many news stories back in the late 80's and 90's of Post Office employees going off the deep end, we now have a name for it. "Going Postal"
We should be allowed to carry there to protect ourselves from their employees.

And if I recall, the "going postal" happened regardless of the invisible forcefield known as the GFZ.
actually, it was a result of workers going Postal. Before that I don't recall there being any signs saying leave it in car before entering.
I have worn my jacket into the PO once or twice by accident too. Ooops.
I will have to say that it is odd this is considered a Federal Governmental office though, as noted earlier, it isn't any longer.
