Overnight dozens of buildings were on fire in a hour time frame across Gary prompting departments from across Lake & Porter County to respond for mutual aid.
This video shows a dozen different homes burning as crews scramble to get to each scene. At one point there was 7 homes ablaze in an 8 block area. It appears at this time most of these destroyed structures appeared vacant however with the strong winds neighboring occupied structures were catching on fire. It is suspected at this time one or more individuals started these fires. RNS has not heard of any injuries from the fires as of 5 AM.
No further information was immediately available.
Anyone with information on these fires is asked to the Gary Police Crime Tip Line at 866-CRIME-GP

    Vacant homes burning... possible choices

1- criminals burning a crime scene to hide evidence

2- an honest, but frustrated, citizen burning drug houses to remove a bad element from an otherwise safe neighborhood
But dozens in one night to me spells arson crime spree for its own sake.

Gary has been delaying tearing these homes down for years. I’m not saying it is a frustrated citizen but it seems like a plausible way to clean up some of the crime. Burn it out. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those fires were accidentally set by frustrated good neighbors who took advantage of the situation to clear their street of human debris.

I also was wondering if it was some conspiracy by one or more landlords. If you can get someone to burn up the homes you own and also some other ones, it does not look as suspicious.

Said the properties were vacant. Some were reported as dilapidated. Likely no insurance. Likely owed back taxes and possibly owned by county for non payment of taxes. Insurance motive on those types of property seems slim.

Could be an arsonist having some ‘fun’

There were a bunch of similar fires in April, no known motive for those. This could be a copycat or same person. Lots of things to consider. I’m still not ruling out a warped sense of community service cleaning up the neighborhood. Not ruling out depraved sexual satisfaction as a motive for arson either. But I doubt it’s for insurance.

Seattle and Portland do silly things where the ANTIFA folks celebrate May Day with anarchy and mayhem, but those are typically entitled self-important white liberal kids acting out against the Capitalist system that gave them an easy lifestyle with plenty of material good. They turn to Socialism in hopes of (insert stupid idea here) and then go on wanton sprees of violence against property and business that is entrenched in the Capitalistic pursuit of profits.

Somehow I don't see that happening in this case. Seems more like a loner, or maybe a couple copy cats, getting rid of crack houses. Maybe to get their rocks off. Maybe to clean the human debris from their neighborhood. Maybe to clean the physical debris from their neighborhood. I dunno

Weekend is almost over, lots of yard work completed. Glad for my pickup truck for moving large heavy bulky things like landscaping stones and mulch.

9 days off is over. :crying: Back to the grind in the morning. Got everything accomplished I needed to and then some, with a couple do nothing days mixed in. Ended it with a cookout and beers at a buddies house tonight

Anybody here know enough about electrical to maybe suggest a fix to an issue I'm having. Front door camera is attached to an outlet that is connected to a light switch. It has random episodes where the camera blanks out for several seconds or minutes. Possible that the camera is just crap but could it being attached to a light switch be causing it? I live alone so unless I have a ghost nobody is messing with it. It's too high for the fuzzy monsters to reach. I might just remove the switch from the equation.
That sounds like connectivity, not power. Power issues would cause the camera to reboot. That would take more than several seconds.

Wireless is a funny thing. Distance is not the only thing in the equation of how well it will work. Material composition of walls or objects in the line to the AP, and interference from other electronic devices are both big parts of the equation. With it cutting in and out, you might see if there is some correlation to something turning on and/or off nearby.
