    .
Those are chanterelles, enjoy. Jack-O-Lanterns look similar and will make you sick if you consume them, but they typically grow in groups and always on wood.

On the positive side, research is showing Jack-O-Lanterns as a source of an anti-cancer drug.

The one in the center looks differerent? Am I just being paranoid, or could it be a jack-o-lantern?...

I would toss the one in the center out. Better safe than sorry. The rest all look more like chanterelles.

I only eat what I pick myself and the jack-o-lanterns only grow on wood, but they can grow on wood buried slightly below the soil.

I used Google Lens app to help identify them. You folks ever use this app for mushroom identification?

View attachment 223112 I found some Chicken of the Woods a couple of weeks ago.
I prefer the Maitake (Hen of the Woods) but don’t expect to start seeing them for a few more weeks.

Please keep us posted. I ended up with a fair batch of chanterelles, after hooky posted a pick of his find a few weeks ago.

I think I still have a half dozen qt jars of dehydrated maitakes from last year.

    Will do!
That’s great to still have some on hand! I didn’t have a dehydrator last year so I froze or gave away a lot of what I found. As a result, I ran out rather quickly.
I’m hoping this will be a good season and I’ll definitely manage it better.
