Back when ammo was available how much did a box of 20 rounds of match quality .308 rounds cost? I reload but are obviously no supplies available. Just curious.

Wow that seems like a lifetime ago. I think locally Federal Gold Medal Match was about $28-$32 per 20. Could get it online by the 200 round case for probably 30% less. Even then reloading is still more cost effective.

On a budget the PPU MatchLine stuff was pretty decent and under $1 a round.

Prices are up but I’ve been able to accumulate about 1000 rounds of .308 over the last 3 months at between .99 and $2 a round. Reloading supplies are up there in some cases but if vigilant, you can still pick stuff up. Right now, I have 4# of 4064 inbound. Last month, I scored a brick of large rifle CCI primers. I picked up 500 168g Sierra Matchking bullets but paid about .50 per.

While it’s by no means like it was, there are occasional decent deals floating around. Problem is, by the time someone can post about them, they are gone. Yesterday I received 200 rounds of Norma Tactical 150g .308 that cost about 99 cents a round.

You need to be vigilant and lucky and be willing to buy before thinking about it as most times, a brick of primers disappears faster than a democrats promise

I was at the CMP range at Talladega last month for a match. The in stock ammo was dwindling down to where only the high dollar ammo was left. As it stayed at the same price while the whole rest of the world prices rose like crazy, it became much more attractive. It ain't much more to buy the good stuff now. I got some .308 match ammo with Lapua brass, and Lapua Scenar bullets for $125 a 100. You can't buy the components for that price.

Depending on the load it was about $1 a round give or take. While .308 has gone up in price with everything else, it doesn't seem to have blown up quite as badly as other "military" cartridges. Darn near cheaper than 556 with current pricing.

Strange that the word 'match' is in the URL, but no indication on the ASO web site, nor on the Norma web site, that this ammo is match grade.

Btw, I bought 2 boxes of this at rural king for $18/box last month. I bought under the guise of it being nothing more than 'plinking' ammo. Haven't had a chance to shoot any of it yet.

Same here. I picked up 200 rounds for general plinking but have not run it yet.

Best price I paid was 16.55 per box of 20. Fed Gold Medal 168g. That was Dec 2019 from Target Sports USA... Wish I could go back and add some 0’s to the end of those quantities..

I bought surplus M118LR for around 65 cents a rd before the insanity hit. Now its around $3 per rd.
I reload 41.7 of 4064 over 175 match bullets to dupe that load. My first batch shot .7 MOA without any tweaking or practice out of a new bulit F class Rem 700. I know that load could be improved with further development. Love the M118LR, but my affection does not hold at $3 a rd.

41.8 - 42.0 grain 4064 under 175 grain MatchKing. I am sure the load can be improved. But the load groups 1" at 100 out of two different guns. Similar zero to factory 168 grain FGMM.
