That is why I got the five year first. When we moved here two years ago we had a new home and still owned the old home over in Illinois so money was tight. We finally got all our Illinois property sold so I got the lifetime last year, will probably let the five year lapse. Applied for the 5 year just before it went free and the same with the lifetime, oh well. Jim.
Ha. I also got hit up for the renewal right before it went free. Sad face.

Why not just tack on a little gun icon to the IN driver's license like the little red heart for organ donation? In fact, if you are both LTCH and organ donor, you can have a little heart drawn around the gun icon (for efficient use of space of course). :)

Because anti gunners can get your home address from your driver's license if you have to show it for ID purposes. That's one reason.

It’s a good idea. But not something I care to explain while traveling out of state to the nice officer alongside the interstate.

I believe that within IN our information is already available to law enforcement.

So maybe a dumb question but what is the advantage of getting a license now that one will not be required? I’ve had my lifetime for awhile it curious for the wife.

Has anyone confirmed this 100%? I believe I have read from some Leo Ingo-ers that it does in some counties & maybe ISP? But in my years of occasional scanner listening I can't say I've ever heard a dispatcher after running a "10-27" say valid DL and has a Ltch. :dunno:(I have heard a Leo running a check on an actual Ltch) Oh to the OP: get the lifetime for sure. Until NICS gets their s@#% straight with 5yr what's the point? But when it does I'll be first in line! I seem to get delays 50% of the time

Im not sure if its possible, but you may be able to use the same set of fingerprints if you apply for the lifetime and 5 year at the same time. That way if they make the 5 year NICS exempt he wouldn't have to pay for an extra set of prints.

If I run a driver's license on my laptop, the inquiry goes to the BMV for a response. It also runs that information through ISP LTCH database, local warrants, and NCIC. So a simple driver's license return will give us BMV response, LTCH, and warrants, each time. If we run a license plate, it automatically runs the driver's license of the registered owner, I think the LTCH, then warrants. I think this is a statewide result.

Well that settles it lol. It makes sense that all these databases should be concurrently queried from a name or tag, I'm sure it helps to know who you're dealing with on the side of a road at 3am. Speaking of, I've been pondering how dept. policies may change with constitutional carry when we go from 1.2M Ltch to 5 million potential carriers. Will it be "this guy has his pink card & is squared away" vs "now they all might be packing??" I'm kind of glad to hear the Ltch shows up, should I be stopped somewhere I'd hope it would warrant a little extra civility.

I actually think it will increase the number of licenses here in Indiana. I have my lifetime so it will change nothing for me. I could not always carry because I lived in Illinois except out of state on a Utah or Florida permit. Once I got used to being able to carry I realy hate to go somewhere that I cannot carry.
Once people get used to being able to carry I think many will get a license so they can carry out of state. With the minimal cost of a license now it will not be a big deal to get one. Jim.

We are way off topic now. My fault.

    1) Increased reciprocity. I do not agree with any type of federal recognition of handgun licensing. This is a state matter. Feds will mess it up. Yeah it would be nice to eliminate the licenses all together but let’s be realistic.

    2) No NICS at the gun counter. Fill out the 4473 and flash the pink. NICS is broken, a delay is an infringement. Shut down the computers and gun sales stop. Again we can run down a rabbit hole but let’s assume that we aren’t getting rid of some sort of background check. In fact there is more talk of universal checks.

    3) I believe some States allow carry in or around schools and other areas the mere plebes are not allowed without the enhanced license. What about casinos or Corp of Engineer properties or the Post Office? Yeah it’s all a nasty web of federal vs State vs Private property. But based on the number of times I take a gun on and off my belt it would appear there are plenty of places I am not allowed to have a gun.
We had number 2 with our CPL until MI legalized marijuana and then it went away. It was nice while it lasted. I could get in and out of the gunstore at lunch time.

I certainly wouldn’t support it before July 1st, 2022. I would not support elimination of the lifetime license. I would be open minded regarding an enhanced license renewed every 5 years. Especially if it enhanced our ability to carry firearms.
I would rather we focus our effort to enhance our carry by working to eliminate the unconstitutional "gun free zones" that infringe upon our right to carry.

"Enhanced" licenses are just a further infringement, as is LEOSA (as an unequal protection under law).

I'm not sure, but I feel like I heard somewhere that some states require recertification every 5 years for reciprocity. My understanding was that was the reason for going from a 4 year to a 5 year license. If I understand correctly, a lifetime license would not offer reciprocity in some states after 5 years.
I am unaware of any states that fail to honor the lifetime LTCH due to it being lifetime rather than requiring a renewal frequency?

This is probably the only compelling reason to consider a 5-year LTCH, while already possessing a lifetime LTCH. But,currently, I don't purchase firearms frequently enough for it to matter all that much.

I shouldn't be compelled to disclose my LTCH status merely due to being required to ID myself.
