    Any large garage door experts?

I have a 18’x12’ steel non insulated garage door on my pole barn.

Problem 1 anyone have an estimated weight? I sent an email to the manufacturer, but haven’t heard back. I don’t have a scale big enough to weigh it.

Problem 2 and what kicked this all off, I looked up and saw one of the springs relaxed. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it has been this way since the barn was built 2 years ago. The installer had 600 pounds worth of springs installed, so they just left one unwound.

Thinking about just re springing correctly, vs just rewinding the one spring. Installed springs are .312x45x3.5” ID.

    Here is what I’m thinking.

Currently installed, once I wound that second spring and removed the vice grips, door took off like a rocket. I had to jump off a step ladder onto the door to get it back down.

My only advice is unless you have the knowledge and associated tools for garage doors and springs. Call in a professional. Good luck!

I’ve replaced springs, and even doors on residential sized doors, this big door is on another level, but still the same concepts.

Not going to guess on the weight, ordered this.
Amazing that you can get a 660 pound scale for $44.

I've recently installed several garage doors. The number of turns is determined by the door height, and the spring size is determined by the weight of the door. Good plan to get a scale; unless you can find the weight somewhere, you're just randomly guessing (often to dangerous results).
