Dillinger's family had lawsuits seeking financial recovery for publicity using the name, Our cousins grew up fatherless due to him and his gang.

    Cool to be remembered.
It kid my understanding that the restaurant formerly known as "Dillinger's" had to change the name due to the family. (Located in Hudson, IN, and now known as "Gangster's Grill")

I've also heard the the gun will be made inoperable and put on display in the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum.

    Interesting story:

"Reach for the moon, or I'll cut you in half."

When you shoot, you can get your man with a single shot! The tremendous shock of the .45 caliber bullet knocks him down — and he stays down!

That must be a hellofa gun.

    Thanks for the update.

Dillinger was somewhat of a folk hero, not because the common man actually believed in evil, but that bank robbing as a distorted payback to the bankers who had caused so much turmoil in the common mans life. In own time, the Enron scandal, Goldman Sachs, Citibank and the others where corrupt business practices stole everyones retirement, the perps were way to far from the common man both in location and social status. The thieving bankers of that time were in the communities at the local bank. That made they way easier to accept bad things that are viewed as justice.

For our generation to view Dillingers actions as justice, he would be Breaking into financial corporation CEO and CFO offices and taking wealth from them, not the local bank teller window.

The newspaper article says the FBI deactivted the gun and drilled HOLES in it!!!! HOLES!!!!

The only reason some people are alive is because it's against the law to kill them.

Very nice. To bad the FBI had to deface it. They may be one of the guns that make the bullet holes in downtown South Bend!

This gun, as a full automatic Thompson (which it isn't at the moment), is worth about $60K. As a collectable Dillinger memento, it is worth between $250K and $500K. Many leftwingers are upset that it is coming back to Indiana. Dislike that any gun comes to Indiana. Guess they do not appreciate what something like this could bring in terms of money.

That era made the Colt 1911 .45., .38 super and S&W .38/44 HD icons in addition to the Thompson.
