Thanks, Scutter. I didn't see that thread the first time around.

I am up for a "keep it clean, keep it safe" OC cleanup, about anywhere in a reasonable drive of Indy. I bet we could arrange a one-time cleanup pretty easy. If that goes well, maybe look @ adoption?

Anyone work for INDOT and know the right folks to call?

From the thread Scutter posted above:
I would be willing to make a trip once a month or so to help clean up with some INGO brothers.

edit: Man I need to start researching before I post so I don't have to keep editing my posts...anyways...found this for you Fenway.

    INDOT: Adopt-A-Highway Program Brochure

Let's do this. If there is enough committed interest in repeat events, I'll give the Indianapolis subdistrict a call to see what the requirements for sponsorship are (specifically, how often do we need to commit to be out there? daily? weekly? monthly?).

:): but the adopt a highway stuff is just for litter, not actual cutting the grass and stuff to my knowledge. And count me in as a commited person after 9/11/11,
We (IAFF local 416) used to do a program where we picked up trash, cut the grass and planted some trees...maybe it's not the same one?

This idea :rockwoot:! Can we adopt a neighborhood to , maybe Mars Hill ?

I'd be in for a OC day of trash pick up .
You just have to get the kevlar signs in the Hill. :):

Dunno, I always see the state workers cutting the grass when necessary. It was my understandign that it was just trash and whatnot. It wouldn't be the first time i've been wrong. :dunno:

Ok, I'll bump this one. I like the idea, but with so many of us spread out, we could adopt a FEW highways... And yes, I'd like to see us OC while doing it. :D

Help Stop The Great Indiana Cover Up!-Be A "Trash Basher!"

Did you know there has been a cover up in Indiana? The landscape is littered with the trash people throw from their vehicles and this debris is hiding Indiana’s scenic beauty. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has a solution to this problem, but it needs your help.
When groups join the Adopt-A-Highway program, members help significantly reduce the roadside trash problem. This improves the look of their communities, and can also uncover Indiana’s natural heritage. what an excellent way to gain a sense of accomplishment right in your own town!
INDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway coordinator in your area can supply your group with safety training, vests, road work signs, and trash bags to help get the job done. In return, INDOT will place a sign on the portion of highway your group adopts for this worthwhile effort.
More than a thousand groups are already making this program a success around Indiana. The Adopt-A-Highway program helps us all recover our natural heritage, but we can’t do it without your help.

Adopt-A-Highway coordinators are located in 35 INDOT regional offices. The offices are divided by district and can be found under that heading. They are as follows:
    • Northern Indiana: LaPorte and Fort Wayne District
    • Central Indiana: Crawfordsville and Greenfield District
    • Southern Indiana: Seymour and Vincennes District
Contact the office near you for more information about the Adopt-A-Highway program. You can also write INDOT’s Public Affairs Division at 100 N. Senate Avenue, Room N755, Indianapolis, IN 46204, or call at 317-232-5533.
