A little known Hoosier link to 9/11 has reared it's head. While jets were slamming into targets on that day, two brave pilots manned their unarmed F-16's and went in search of more planes, determined to bring them down the only way they could. One of the pilots was one of the first female combat pilots in the US and a Purdue grad. She and her Co were unsung heroes, who didn't have to make the supreme sacrifice.

I know training requires a lot of adjustment but why would we not have armed fighters on the ground at any given time????

During the Cold War we had armed fighter-interceptors and bombers on hot pads. With the perceived end of the Cold War this costly necessity was considered unnecessary. I'm guessing the "hot pad" got reinstated after 9/11.

If it were not for alarmests and anarchists like Rambone it would be no problem having fully armed and loaded standing forces (sea land air) stationed in every neighborhood in the UAS the could even give them living space in your home.

Notice I said nothing about the Constitution.

Purple? We don't need no stinkin' purple.

I wonder if she was flying one of the planes that was being discussed here by Norman Mineta. Prevented from acting until it was too late.
