I did one like 12 years ago after having lunch and dinner at White Castle. After about 2 hours, they said they had all the information they needed and I was free to go.

I did mine at home and got my machine about two days later.

My one month check up they were surprised that I had used it every night.

I am late for my three month check.

Don't let your hatred for bureaucratic BS keep you from being healthy though. Untreated apnea + heart issues can be deadly.

I won't do that. I am certain that if it were an issue it would have been noticed while I was hospitalized earlier this year. My point is that there seems to be a concerted effort from Washington to harass the sh*t out of traditional truck drivers while writing papers for middle easterners who are doing well to stay between the lines. If there were a justifiable purpose and a requirement for more than mere remote possibility as a criterion, I wouldn't be nearly so irritated. Having this rubbed in my face also contributed to my rancor having a damned commie who is more likely than not a foreign national occupying our White House.

While in the hospital a year ago for gall bladder problems some very foreign sounding doctor decided I had sleep apnea. Here's how the test went. Very foreign sounding doctor I'd never seen before sticks his head in the door and says, "Do you have diabetes?" Me, "No". VFSD, "Do you have sleep apnea?" Me, "No". VFSD, "Yes you do!" and he was gone. The day I went home, I got a call from VFSD's office asking when I could come in for a sleep test. Me, "Never". Next day, they called again and said Dr. VF Name wants you in for a sleep test. Me, "Tell Dr. VF Name I don't give a hoot-in-hell what he wants and if I thought I needed a sleep test he's the last SOB on earth I'd have do it and don't call me again". Dr. Very Foreign Name apparently prowls St. Francis looking for suckers.

No, I have not had a sleep test. I'm 70 for Pete's sake. I sleep from 1PM to 4PM every day!

I've done two sleep studies, at least 10 years apart, because my wife said I snored. One night stands both of them, wires hooked to my legs and chest, I can't remember if my head too? Biggest problem, aside from a strange bed, was I couldn't sleep on my face.

Negative for sleep apnea both times, altho I did find out I change positions every 15 minutes like clockwork - left side, back, right side, back left side....

Any I know a couple people who did have sleep apnea, and the real cure was not a CPAP but losing weight.

After ignoring my sleep apnea since I was 21, I finally got tired of being sleepy during the day, losing focus on everyday tasks and generally feeling tired all the time, and did a home sleep study in May. One night, simple equipment and minimal (if any) hassles. When the results came back and showed the number of breathing stoppages per hour (39) and the resulting strain on my heart, I didn't waste any time getting set up with a CPAP. The result? After some initial adjustments, my average sleep "events" are down below 2 per hour and I'm starting to feel better...the sleep I get is of better quality, and I wake up ready to wade into whatever the day brings. I'm getting more done around the house during my off-hours and I think the quality of my work has improved on the job, because I'm able to concentrate better than before. My neck size was never out of the ordinary, and I've never had a weight problem, but my parents were both mega-snorers and probably had OSA to some extent as well. If you ever wonder, just ask your family doctor about OSA. Mine asked me a few simple screening questions and said it was likely that I did have a problem. A couple of phone calls later, I had an appointment with a sleep medicine specialist and things went pretty smoothly from there.

I should have put that in purple. I was joking. Cuz I know sleep apnea can be serious. I truly didn't mean to be flippant on the subject. Was just messing with Doc.

With you making light of apnea, and someone else mocking his disfiguring romaine injury, we will be lucky if doc sticks around. I can't believe the insensitivities around here lately. I'm going to my safe space.

    P. S. Yes I'm a fat f***, which I know is a contributing factor to my obstructive apnea. With that said, cpap changed my life and without it, there's no way I'd have the energy needed to work on my fat-f***ery.

There are also people many who have OSA without any weight issues, and there's also central apnea which can affect anyone.

I sort of thought you were joking... I also hoped Doc would realize I was joking, but it's why I followed up with my later comment. I don't discount cpap affects on family member's lives... or yours... and maybe even Doc's. From what I've seen in my family, it doesn't seem to favor heavy weight over skinny. It sucks all around, and is why I wanted to follow up with a 'serious' comment in case my previous one was taken wrongly.

Don't need a CDL to be forced to do a sleep study. All it takes is for you to be certified to drive DOT vehicles. I work for a small package delivery company, and I only have a Chauffeur's License; but I just had to have a sleep study done, then get a CPAP (because I'm lucky and, of course, my fat a** has OSA). The sleep study wasn't that bad. I just had a a headband-type of machine that had nose tubes. I still couldn't sleep with it on, but... I know it's technically more obtrusive, but I prefer the face mask I have (covers mouth and nose). I couldn't deal with the constant air being blown up my nose. It made me feel like I was drowning (think putting your head out of the window of a moving car, going 100 MPH, into a strong wind).

ETA: I find it odd that the OP couldn't have a formal study approved. I also have Anthem and was given the choice, but I asked for a home test.
