Not sure how they got in, but some of the long gun lock racks in police cars are not very hard to disengage.

Saw this come true with one of my LEO friends. Perp got in the car, disengaged the rack & fled. Caught them a couple weeks later trying to sell the firearms. Teenagers.

I envy you. In one memorable experience I had locked my keys in the pickup when shopping at an office supply next door to a NAPA store which had the tool I needed to open the door. After proving to my satisfaction that I wasn't going to get the job done, I ended up giving the tool to the store employee who opened the door for me. After all, it wasn't like it was going to do me any good.
