Yes the least able to afford it,are the same ones who voted for it.The people who are hurt most by high gas prices are also the least likely to be able to afford an electric vehicle. Not that there are any to buy anyway, with the microchip shortage. The cheapest new EV is the Nissan Leaf, at about $34k. There are 7 of them listed for sale in a 150 mile radius of Indianapolis. And having been following the car market out of sheer morbid curiousity, I'm quite sure that maybe 1 or 2 out of the 7 listed online are actually on a dealer's lot. If any.
Nevermind the lack of charging infrastructure and the fact that, once again, the people who are struggling to the point that gas prices are a serious issue will probably lack the funds to install an appropriate charger for regular use of the vehicle for commuting, if they even have a garage to put it in. A normal 110v outlet will get you about 36-40 miles of range per overnight charge. Not gonna work for someone who uses their vehicle every day, unless they live within bicycle range of everything.
I don't see mass adoption of EVs any time soon. When the chip shortage is over and someone introduces a sub $25k EV with at least 200 miles of range, we'll see.
I hope they loose everything!
