No, and I get that. But her sole conclusion was the gas prices are too high because Indiana Republican's won't repeal the gas tax. She is a super hardcore tax the rich lefty. So she wants to be a republican and eliminate taxes, but she still hates republicans.
    Ah got ya.

When the plandemic hit and they shut most everything down I paid .79cpg at Costco.

Gas dropped a nickle by me. Down to $4.94
We got it at Kroger one time for less than 25 cpg, 35 gallons was well under $10. That was with $1 off from fuel points though. I tried to talk my wife into picking up some 55 gallon metal drums, but she kept saying no. I'm tempted to ask her if she still thinks we shouldn't have done it. But I won't, I may be stupid at times but I'm not suicidal.

The people who are hurt most by high gas prices are also the least likely to be able to afford an electric vehicle. Not that there are any to buy anyway, with the microchip shortage. The cheapest new EV is the Nissan Leaf, at about $34k. There are 7 of them listed for sale in a 150 mile radius of Indianapolis. And having been following the car market out of sheer morbid curiousity, I'm quite sure that maybe 1 or 2 out of the 7 listed online are actually on a dealer's lot. If any.

Nevermind the lack of charging infrastructure and the fact that, once again, the people who are struggling to the point that gas prices are a serious issue will probably lack the funds to install an appropriate charger for regular use of the vehicle for commuting, if they even have a garage to put it in. A normal 110v outlet will get you about 36-40 miles of range per overnight charge. Not gonna work for someone who uses their vehicle every day, unless they live within bicycle range of everything.

I don't see mass adoption of EVs any time soon. When the chip shortage is over and someone introduces a sub $25k EV with at least 200 miles of range, we'll see.

What makes the electricity to send to the homes so people can charge their cars and not use fossil fuels anyhow?

Oh yeah, not supposed to talk about that. As long as I can't use gas I guess it doesn't matter.

Had a chat with my father yesterday about all this. It isn't the fault of the current administration to him. The pipeline that was shut down wasn't working yet so that doesn't count. The bad Republicans of the state could save the day with dropping the gas tax but they won't because of the R behind their names. Gas wasn't as cheap as I remember it during Trump's term.

I left when it started turning into a Trump bashing session.

It's a shame really that I can't have very long conversations with him any longer. Everything becomes political.

Same here with FIL. Used to have long interesting conversations but he went off the deep end on Trump and he cannot engage in conversation without pretty much bashing all I believe. We once had a lot in common…

Doing away the taxes sounds good, but the oil company's would just add that amount to their price and then everyone loses even more.

I don't think oil futures and gas futures would change all that much just because Indiana drops the tax on it. But sure, local refineries might capitalize. My opposition to dropping the tax is more about fiscal responsibilities. If we drop the tax are we also gonna drop all the work the state pays for with that money? Unless we're willing to drop the work, I'm not ready to say drop the tax. They have to pay for it somehow.
