Report says 2 officers responded and started checking the outer perimeter. It wasn't a SWAT raid. Neighbor saw the front door hanging open and thought there might be a burglary in progress. Single officer responded and was poking around the back of the house with his flashlight. He saw the victim (comfortable calling them a victim, at this point) through the window, drew, and snapped off a single round, killing them. He barely got through "lemmeseeyourhands" before firing. Video was released almost immediately and the mayor basically called a press conference and said "bring me this officer's head". He resigned and murder charges were filed the next day.
A firearm was found inside the home, but at this time it doesn't appear to have been relevant to the shooting. My take on the video is that it almost looked like an ND, he jerked the trigger and seemed surprised at the shot. Absent any unexpected new information, it looks indefensible. He was only on the force less than two years.

Heard on the local news report that the nephew stated his aunt heard a noise in the backyard at which point she took her gun out but there was no indication the officer properly identified himself as such before the fatal shot was fired through the window.
Correct . It wasn’t meant to say that the nephew or anybody else didn’t indicate that the officer failed to properly identify. Just that there has been no evidence as of yet that he did.Incorrect. They explicitly said that the officer DIDN'T identify himself.
It appears that the officer may have identified a gun and just reacted to that.I would assume they would frown on me firing shots through the window at an unidentified person.

Whatever happened is going to be sorted out in a trial now based on that reaction and the course of events that lead up to the fatal shot that was fired through the window.
That dude was no swat team. Where in the world did you get that from?
The original version of the story I read indicated it was a special team, SRT or SWT, or something like that. That apparently was wrong; I have not read a full report on the shooting.
