Just found this on NPR: Apparently there's one place where sandals are the appropriate footwear.

Pfft. If I've spent good money on a gun...or two with attendant holsters and mag carriers, I can wear the same shoes that a 6 year old wears at the beach if I want to.

Of all the threads I have started this one goes the best. It only makes sense on INGO.

Sandals that strap to the feet are way different than flip flops that fly off when you run in them. While you give up a lot in top of foot protection, people actually hike and run in sandals.

In a self defense situation, lack of foot protection could be a problem.

I actually hike in my flip flops (unless it's more than five miles or snowy, then I'll wear my Salomons). If I could find a pair of sandals like that I liked, I'd switch to those for hiking/running.

If I wasn't a wuss about stepping on sharp rocks and sticks, I'd probably hike barefoot.
