I have never been asked. If asked I would likely start with leaving it blank. If they pressed the issue I would probably terminate the relationship and move on.

This will go down on your permanent record

If mine was to ask I would tell them yes I sure do including full autos, SBR's and silencers. They can keep a data base of that if they like because I am not hiding anything. And besides all of that I could care less what they think about anything I own.

Maybe it's just those of us that already have FFL's or an NFA item just think, "what the heck, they already know."

I value any opportunity to educate and explain my hobby. I have nothing to hide and want others to get involved in shooting sports. The rest of you, as Mrs. Slocum would say, "Weak as water!"

Or, for those os a sci-fi persuasion, Paul Atreides would say, "Fear is the mind killer."

What are you afraid of? That the doc says, "Guns are bad. Mmkay."
Maybe they hand you a pamphlet about locking up your guns if you have ankle-biters at home.
    Is that so bad?

I will make the counter argument.

Your wife comes to the doc, "I'm depressed and think about suicide."
Doc calls Sheriff Taylor; Sheriff Taylor sends in a SWAT team to round 'em for safe keeping.
That's pretty close to THE worst practical case.

Nice nod to Frank Herbert. Granted too many people already know too much about us. I am just reflexively private. If I choose to discuss guns and shooting sports with anyone its one thing. To be asked about this by a relative stranger (my doctor is not my friend or in my social circle) is akin, for me, to someone of similar provenance asking how much money I make. If a census taker came to your door (and you didn't run them off) would you answer this question from them (after all, it is being noted on a form.where it goes from there, who knows)?

It could be that I grew up 'country'. Our nearest neighbor was about 2/3 mile away. Other people just weren't up in your business, it would be bad manners.

    Indeed.

I would most certainly question the doctor as to his own line of questioning. I certainly don't agree with asking those question, but I'm not getting my boxer in a knot about it.

empty slot on form....................I am not going to answer that..................that is none of their business.............can't resist must fill out form.( fills out form)

I leave about half of those stupid questions unanswered if its not relevant to my medical situation i figure they don't need to know. especially the "what is your annual income?" that really has no bearing on anything but lots of people ask.

I work in a specialist office and none of our doctors ask about guns nor does the nursing staff. It's not even a question on our emr system. Occasionally a patient will come in carrying a gun but that is pretty rare.

I have two (2) brothers who are physician's (1 is an OB and the other is a hand surgeon) and neither wish to know that sort of information about their patients...shucks, they have so much to do in so little time with each patient as it is...they don't have time to waste on frivolous questions...unless someone volunteers it...then it becomes a great 'connection' (conversation piece) as both of them are avid shooters themselves!
