Hi, I have a question. Which caliber in a lever action rifle would be better ? I deer / yote hunt . A 35 remington or a 30/30 ? and what about resale value if I decide to sell ? I have not heard much on the 35 remington , but heard a lot on 30/30. I used to live north of traverse city michigan and everybody had a 30/30 in closet for deer hunting. PS I know these are hard on yote pelts but shot them as fawn killers.

Understood that the lever gun is the latest flavor of the month. I'd be more inclined to go with a bolt gun for better yote/deer calibers though.

I own several 30-30 (30 winchester center fire) the round has a lot of stopping power, but is a 125-150 yard round.

35 Remington is a great choice!

A lever gun is light & compact, but not very versatile

Neither are ideal for coyote, but either will work fine for deer.
The .30-30 would likely be easier to find loaded ammo for but the .35 has more punch for deer.
Not that you need anything more than a .30-30, but I do love my .35 Remington too.
I believe Henry makes a "Long Ranger" in .243 and 6.5 Creedmoor.
I would think either of those might be easier on a coyote pelt plus give you more range over the .30-30 or .35 Remington and both of those are available just about everywhere.

I'm kind of impressed that you have a choice of a rifle in those two calibers. I haven't seen a 35 Remington 1894 in ages...The animal will be just as dead with either caliber.

Either. I believe a 30 30 would be a better choice simply because there is more ammo availability over the 35 Remington. However the 35 is also a great round too.

I do have a Marlin 336 in 30 30 that I have popped several deer and a 180 pound hog. All with REM 150 gr Coreloc my favorite rifle and ammo combo

30-30 all the way. Ammo is cheaper and more available. More potential buyers if you want to sell it. Also has some lighter weight high velocity flatter shooting loads available. Probably a bit easier to make hits on coyotes at distance.

35 Remington is still very cool and no doubt a hard hitter. Little bit worse trajectory. Both rounds are plenty for what you are wanting.

    For those unfamiliar.

If you reload, you can load 110-125 gn spitzer bullets in the 30-30 that would reach out a bit farther and flatter than the 150 or 170 gn factory loads.

What? Who wouldn't go for a 45-70 lever gun?
