Totally poll driven. If this was such an important issue for Joe he could of done it on day one when he was signing all the other orders that screwed up our country.

And why isn't this being driven by the legislative branch of government? Isn't that where laws are supposed to originate and be changed?
The legislative branch cannot pardon anyone of a federal conviction. This doesn't stop any new charges or convictions. Removing the law would be the legislative branch's job.

Of the few pot heads that vote, they likely already give their nod to the Dems, so I don't see the political needle moving in their direction because of this stunt.

Next time you’re traveling south on SR-39 check out the road sides between SR-10 and SR-16

edit: not joking, just look don’t stop. Square business.
Try driving down just about any country road in Newton Co.

Pardons don't come from the legislative branch. Should Trump not have pardoned anyone and waited for the legislature (who to the best of my knowledge can't pardon) to do it? I'll agree it's political.
So once again a nothing burger.
Not quite. Those with previous convictions still have the conviction on their record, if it was a felony conviction they are prohibited from gun ownership and are supposed to list it on job apps that ask. This will remove that.

Does a pardon remove the charge from your record?

I guarantee you that plenty of "pot heads" vote.

No word on how drunkards may feel about all of this.

    Well, this is a surprise...

"Chris Clark, an attorney for Hunter Biden, suggested in a statement to The Hill that if a federal agent leaked information about the investigation, they had committed a federal felony."

LOL! I think that boat has sailed during all of the investigations of the previous administration.

Biden to pardon all federal offenses of simple marijuana possession

The obvious question is: How many people are charged federally with simple marijuana possession?

Two other people raised this point as well. One answer was virtually zero. The same topic was raised on Timcast IRL (podcast) with the same answer of virtually zero.

You obvioiusly don't understand how this game works. The majority of Americans have the attention span of a gnat. All that is necessary is a good soundbite. It's all optics in politics.

He's pardoning FEDERAL violations of possession. How many federal possession violations are there really in prison without other crimes? I would bet quite few.
    GWP reports:

“Joe Biden on Thursday announced that he will pardon federal simple marijuana possession convictions. However, this is being heralded as a political move as there are currently zero individuals in federal prison with solely “simple possession of marijuana” charges.”

    ABC News reports:

“The executive action will benefit 6,500 people with prior federal convictions and thousands of others charged under the District of Columbia’s criminal code, according to senior administration officials. Elaborating on the number of people affected, officials said, “there are no individuals currently in federal prison solely for simple possession of marijuana.”

That, and a complicit media who only calls out politicians on one side.

Criminalization of marijuana is based on racism and continued out of greed and the love of money and power.

It is past time to end the Drug War.
It seems like criminalization of EVERY drug is based on 'racism' simply because so many POC seem to be in the business - disproportionate representation going to lead to disproportionate incarceration

Perhaps another way to 'end the war on drugs' would be for the other side to surrender and pursue legal endeavors
