If I have posted this in the wrong forum, I'm sorry. Please move it.

My wife and I have a family of friends there who are very near and dear to our hearts. I've been watching what's going on there via their Facebook posts. Sadly, I have been somewhat occupied this past month and I have to admit that I haven't paid as much attention to it as I should have, but things are really getting bad there.

Here's a couple of videos and links:

Paz en calle y batalla en universidad (UCV) 12M - YouTube

Fighting over a bag of powdered milk:
En Mérida como la gente pelea por 1 kilo de Leche VENEZUELA - YouTube

There's a lot more, but this gives you enough to get the idea. I'm also seeing some very sobering parallels here. What are your thoughts?

Reminiscent of the 'bread, freedom and social justice' chant that filled Ciaro's streets in 2010 and 2011, the major grievances of government protesters revolve around access to basic goods and government reform. Venezuela's astoundingly high inflation rate has made items like flour, gasoline and toilet paper difficult, if not impossible, to get.

Yep, I've been following it. It looks nasty and their glorious leader is blaming us and everyone else for what he and his predecessor did to their country. Like Kirk said, they voted the bastard in, now they're having to deal with the fallout. Maybe they'll learn from their mistakes.

Maybe we should be following. We can see an example of what can happen to a country that elects people to office that promise to spread the wealth around and take over and run entire industries.

I wonder if there's a Venezuelan INGO with a thread asking if their members are paying attention to what's going on in the USA? Probably get this exact response there lol.

    Yes, I have friends there.

Of course it is bad but they voted for it and they are reaping what they sow.

I feel bad for them but this is what they wanted.

I heard about it a while back....but am not following it.

If it helps, other than our limp wristed leaders inactoin with the Ukraine...I'm not paying much attention there either. If it doesn't come across FB as a meme I don't get much on the topic.

Yeah, that was what really got my attention when I read articles like the one above. Praying our issues can be resolved at the ballot box rather than in the streets.

Venezuela is the socialists paradise and our socialist news media in the USA doesn't want you or anyone else to really know what's going on and why.

The Ven. govt has made more promises than it can keep (sound familiar) and the bill for those promises is coming due. In an effort to hide the lies and pilfering of the peoples wealth the government is resorting to all the same lies and deceit that other governments in the past have resorted to - blaming outside influences, hoarders, profiteers, money changers, merchants, etc.

The people are going to suffer, there will probably be a civil war as the government and those that feed off the government teat fight those who wish to live in a free society. It may well get very, very ugly as I expect the government to make a major push to shut down the demonstrations and uprising. That's going to mean life fire on it's own citizens (which is already happening). Funny thing is that the President of this country isn't very outspoken about any of the human costs in Venezuela.

That is probably because that death is being brought on by Obama's socialist friends - hasta la victoria siempre!

Following it....I have family in Argentina and trust me when I say they are next....Evita "Botox" Kirchner set up Argentina to fail in the same manner and runaway inflation is the order of the day...In Argentina the stores no longer put prices on because they are changing three and four times a day.....

Many of the media outlets seem to bury these stories. Not sure if it is agenda driven or if they are just not as popular as the missing airliner or Ukraine?

Venezuela is an example of what not to do. They're a massive piece of arable land floating on top of an ocean of oil, but they can't feed themselves or keep their lights turned on. You'll see this in California in a few years.
