I just gave away my Leatherman Free P2. It was perfect for my needs. So, as i shopped for a fitting replacement, i wondered:

Why don't i just carry small pliers instead?

I usually have a different knife on me anyway. Maybe some 4-5" pliers are what i need. I own all the Knipex mini's anyway.

So does anyone carry a non-multi-tool?

Or maybe I should buy a P4 and a Curl or Charge to see if i actually want to buy another P2.... And i don't have a good Gerber or SOG or Swisstool......

You could certainly rep!ace them with a small pair of Knipex if that suits your needs, it's all the other additional tools that are attached to the multi-tool that makes it appealing to most. If ya replaced them all individually, your next purchase would be a small tool bag.
A multi tool that fits your needs is invaluable.

I am in the market for a good multi tool have been dealing with the garbage / cheap brands. So going for a leatherman. I was looking at the "mutt”

The pliers are great but the thing I use the most is the screwdriver I want to get the ratcheting attachment too.
