I'm starting a SW side Waffle House thread, will start with @jwamplerusa 's link. This made national news in less than 6 hours.

Both of these earn their own thread IMHO.

I was in KC, but not at the parade when this happened. I ate dinner at a local restaurant and ran into some Missouri state police officers and asked them about the shooting. They told me it was gang violence and there was a "hit" out on one of the people involved. Also confirmed that a glock with switch was involved. I wish the media would call it what is instead of the PC version of "dispute". It was gang violence and no one wants to say that publicly.

I have long said that the key to reducing the death toll of these kinds of gang related shootings is proper marksmanship training.

Think of how many lives of innocent bystanders could be saved if these a-holes actually knew how to shoot, not just pull a trigger.

The NRA should sponsor free training in neighborhoods with the most gang related shootings. In a few short years, the problem would work itself out. :coffee:
Hell no. The cornerstone of my self defense strategy is their poor marksmanship buying me enough time to draw and properly place the leave me alone seeds.

Ima just gonna go out on a limb and guess, you are probably not gang banger. If I'm wrong, my apologies.

As a non-gang banger, the odds of you being shot by gang banger, on purpose, are so small that they are statistically insignificant.

The odds of you being hit by an errant bullet as gang banger A is chootin at gang banger B are much greater.

We can reduce those odds significantly by ensuring that said gang bangers hit their intended targets, ya know, other gang bangers.

Doing so reduces the risk of harm to you, an innocent bystander, and fosters an environment where the total number of gang bangers sees a precipitous decline.

Thanks for attending my TED Talk.

I see where you are going! Subsidized marksmanship training for gang bangers!

    Absolutely brilliant!

One of the comments in the news story about the awful waffle:
"Where is that good guy with a gun y'all are always talking about? Huh?"

And an epic response: "He was at home in bed. He has to work tomorrow unlike these losers."

Eh, I'm sure good guys work nights too. Where is that good guy with a gun? I dunno. Most Waffle House restaurants I've seen are usually in the high crime areas. I don't think their profit margin is high enough to afford spaces in better shopping districts. Likely there are good guys with guns stuck in the **** hole areas. Are they hanging out at Waffle house? Probably not.

That, and the fact anti-gunners have scared a bunch of people into not carrying, or owning a gun.

    GoFundMe set up.
    Of course.

Sister says he was just protecting her.
    Well, it is possible.
I mean a bunch of shots go off, and you start shooting the shooter... it's entirely possible to get rounded up with a group. One of the fears of a defensive shooting.
Maybe enough witnesses will come forward, or even better, video evidence of him shooting just a shooter, or him shooting into the crowd, or something like that.

More info emerges . . . NY Post article which has the KCPD mugshot of Lyndell Mays, and another photo of him from his Facebook page.

    From NY Post articles . . .
GoFundMe for Lyndell Mays has been shut down after only collecting $100.
In court docs, Lyndell Mays told cops he was "just being stupid".
Allegedly pulled gun out which prompted others to pull their guns out, and he started shooting.
Dominic Miller, the other adult charged (age 18), allegedly fired the shot that killed the woman DJ.
No mugshot yet of Dominic Miller.

My take on it at this point is a very rapid escalation of a confrontation between two "groups" of gang-bangers, which included adults and minors. I expect there will be more arrests and more details emerge and more dots get connected. One other individual was arrested for picking up a Glock 22 that was dropped in all the mayhem . . . he is a convicted felon which has him facing "felon in possession" charges. He alleges that he picked it up to turn it over to police. He was tested for gunshot residue which came up negative and they (KCPD) have no other reason to believe he was part of the gun battle. Make up your own mind about whether his story about wanting to turn it in to police is credible.

Mugshot of Lyndell Mays taken after he was released by hospital:
