Any Guard folks here: NG/ANG is dual chain of command (Title 10 is Federal, Title 32 status is State.)

Doesn't there need to be some type of a mobilization to bring NG/ANG to Title 10 status unless requested by the Governor? I'm a bit rusty on this stuff.
Yea.. there are also individual mob orders. Even 32 is paid by federal. Just not same benifits like retirement points on federal side.If its just a state mobilization like for floods riots then the states assumes all responsibility. You basically are just a state employee. Not even covered under tricare or anythi g that happens to ya can be counted for va disability later. You are under workman's comp. Why states really hate calling soldiers up. Plus the state pays the pay check.

Yes. Getting into T10 status is usually a big deal. We have and still do it a lot, but it is more than a simple proclamation. It would also be pretty expensive for the Feds to mobilize the entire Texas NG.

If Biden nationalizes the Texas guard, it will absolutely thrill his base, but the rest of non-clown-world will forget about it by November.

When was the last time the media talked about the hundreds of Americans left behind in Afghanistan?

Biden's advisers have got to be telling him that in November, nobody will remember anything that happened in January.

Probably more likely they would just withhold federal funds that fund the guard.
Thanks guys. My last experience with Guard/Reserve was at Al Udeid, Qatar. That was 19 years ago and it was confusing to an old GI who'd been around active duty forever.

Might have a "Military BS Stories" thread post coming later on the ANG/Reserve stuff in the AOR.

Yea I've been both and I will say guard is used and abuse way more than active. I am wondering if things come to a head if the federal govt will cut off those gsa cards the supply sgts use especially for fuel

Plenty of people from Maryland and WV fought for and had loyalties to the confederacy though.
And this happened in a great many union states, especially the border states where some counties and areas had significant confederate sympathies. But the states themselves listed above (and by default the majority of their populations) were union. Kentucky was especially conflicted and tried for a while to be the "middle man" negotiating between the two sides while staying neutral. But even they eventually ended up on the union side. The confederate leaning areas boycotted a state election, which made it happen faster, but it was still likely inevitable.

Virginia was most definitely NOT a union state!
Correct. But I said West Virginia. West Virginia's entire point of existence was in order to become a Union state. In fact, President Lincoln completely ignored the constitution in the creation of West Virginia, but it did have the desired effect.

Ironically Maryland’s state Anthem had pro confederate sympathies until it recently got changed.

I do not think it will come to this, however, that could suck.

It would suck for everybody. Hopefully no-one here is foolish enough to advocate for armed conflict between a state and federal government. I believe that both Gov. Abbott and even President Biden (or his handlers) are smart enough to avoid that. This will play out in the courts and in the press. The federal response (if any) will likely be budgetary (where they can do Texas a lot of damage) or some photo-op-only negligible physical actions so they can say "we won".

Gotta hand it to him, Abbott has a lot of guts and isn't backing down.

The amount of terrorists alone that are coming over the border, should be enough for even people that empathize on the humanitian side of the border issue, that something needs to be done.

    .
I don't think the rank and file of the border patrol are interested in cutting wire if it means pushing guardsmen out of the way to do it. The big unknown in all of this for leadership on both sides is what will the man with the gun do. Once the feds decide to move everything changes.

I'm betting if they move they have Mayorkas make the announcement so the man behind the curtain can have Biden quickly countermand the order if the guard doesn't respond to the federalization edict or the Border Patrol doesn't push the guard out.

The chess game is over if the pieces don't move the way you tell them, ask Erich Honecker.;)

This is why SDFs exist, they can't be nationalized. Texas has a very healthy SDF.

Nobody supports an open border for humanitarian reasons, they all know it results in massive human trafficking, exploitation, and death.
