I have thought this was the case for years. Especially since the Snowden revelations. When his leak disclosed the U.S. was sending raw telephone PIN data from the D.C. area to "trusted partners" I recoiled in horror. How could any U.S. citizen do that and not recognize the potential of blackmail against our elected servants and the professional bureaucrat class?

"Senator, we have call logs showing long calls between you and this young lady at XXX address, XXX phone number. It would be a shame for your wife to realize you were not at work during XXX dates. It would be very helpful for you to vote Yay on XXX bill."
