Agree with points 2-4. The bicyclists have every right to the lane anyone else has. They do not have to ride the white line. Actually that is more dangerous for them because it emboldens cars to squeeze them off the road.

I wish people got angry about things that really matter…

Indiana is F'n stupid when it comes to biking. Our roads are barely big enough in a lot of places for cars, let alone bikes. When I lived in MN all roads had large shoulders (3 feet or so on each side) that allowed people to bike and stay out of the freaking way of traffic. The problem is that bikes don't go anywhere near the speed of traffic and our infrastructure is poor enough that most roads are choked with traffic. The reason this matters to a lot of people is that most people riding bikes are hypocrites. First they say they want to "share the road" with cars and obey the same laws, then they blow through stop signs and stop lights. I love riding a bike, but I sure as hell don't want to share the road with cars. When I want to ride I take my bike to the park and ride where I don't have to worry about being run over. If you're in a small town with country roads, that's one thing, but wanting to ride in most areas around Indy is a bad idea IMO. Do what you want to do, but there's a reason people hate on cyclists.

You would hate Lagrange Co. There are a lot of Amish on various types of bikes and of course in their buggies. I see them laughing all the time because they slow down traffic. The English on bikes here do get out of your way.

There are two bike path crossings on my way to work.

Until they put in the bike path there was a Yield sign at the RR Spur crossing. Now there is a Stop sign. The bike path also has a tiny Stop sign which is never obeyed, even if there is a car stopped that has the right of way.

The next has a crosswalk and a sign that says yield to pedestrians in crosswalk. The path has Stop signs (again tiny) and large signs that state Cross traffic does not stop. So that means bikes and people just blow through and cars have to stop for them.

Rorhman Rd is a fall mile long there is a bike path with a fence between it and the road. The road has a double yellow line. Two bikes were riding in the lane in front of me at c. 10 mph.

    Yes I HATE BIKES!

If you can even try to empathize with cyclists for a second. a car has energy limited only by its fuel tank, to stop a cyclist is to demand a major energy expenditure to just get going again. Many states recognizing this have changed laws so stop signs mean yield to bicyclists.

I have baffled for years trying to get to the root of where anti bike hatred comes from, it is so intense that it cannot just be the little crap mentioned in this thread that incites it.

Most people only think about what they know. I know people that ride 10,000 plus miles per year, they do not even own a car. I know folks that have routes they ride often that are 100-150 miles a day, hard to ride that in a park or get to work.

Actually gun folks and many cyclists have a lot in common, their bicycles are quite similar to guns that folks tinker with, swap parts, or tune up to run better.

I have mostly quit road riding since the proliferation of texting and because of unhinged bicycle haters on the road. Haters every bit as unhinged as that person calling the cops because they saw your gun when you bent over to get something of the shelf at a store…

cyclists are merely at a point where they have had more of their demands met from society at large.

    Ok, I'll shut up now.

They can be removed with pressure washers…aim it at their head and you be amazed at how fast they’ll pull their hands from the asphalt!…then aim the washer at what’s left stuck to the pavement!

    Modern problems require modern solutions!

I take it you've never seen what happens when you actually spray someone with a pressure washer.

I take it you’ve never had one of these “protesters” block you from getting to work or home?

You’re right I’m not an animal!!!…but I drive to work every day and in one 6 block stretch I hit 5 stoplights…so, I’m not exactly Bob Ross or Mr Rogers either!

Those that stick on the side, on the right side, are visible, and follow traffic laws, I don't care about.
Those people are known as 'gutter-bunnies'. The reality is cage people think a cyclist should run right up against the curb or only use the 6 inches of shoulder outside the lines on most country roads - both locations are full of junk and debris and make the ride more dangerous. 18 inches would be quite enough but few willingly allow that. They feel secure that they have a physical advantage accorded them by their vehicle mass

The reality is, many drivers are willing to risk a cyclist's life and limb just to save 5 seconds on their way to their destination. THAT is the attitude that results in Critical Mass rides (which I do not approve of)

And yes, I carry when I ride and people should remember that a believable threat to strike a cyclist with a motorized vehicle could rise to the level of 'articulable fear of death or immense bodily harm' and get them stumped

Try treating them as hopefully most of you would treat a motorcyclist. Just because you couldn't do what they're doing is no reason to be a hater

And INGO hates bike lanes, so where DO you want them to ride? You should review the Northridge quake in '94. There were large areas in which bicycles were just about the only viable means of transportation if you didn't wish to walk. Think about that when you think about gov't shutting off your car to limit your mobility

Yup, there's a lot of dumb drivers out there.
    And guess what.
If they're following the laws, then I also don't care.
But if a car drives the wrong way, doesn't stop for lights/signs, or ignores everyone else, then F them also.

    But, newsflash.
An idiot car driver has better survival odds that that cyclist riding against traffic and nit stopping for intersections
