Are we talking the current election or 2020? For the mail-in voting that is.
We were talking red wave but it applies to 2020 as well. Trump got the most votes of an incumbent president in history and simultaneously hit all the benchmarks of over a dozen bellwethers too boot and still lost. The idiot in the basement, Bidet, conversely got 120% of the charismatic and controversial obummer. What changed?

In part, Trump's an ******* who a lot of people wouldn't vote for. And would turn out in droves to vote against. And a lot would also turn out in droves to vote for. A lot more interest in elections in the younger crowd as well.

They sure loved Trump in safe blue states because their vote totals were not drastically different from 2016 but boy Trump sure stirred up the negative votes in purple states.
Or perhaps, nobody changed their mind due to Trump's antics simply because in blue states the majority of people aren't going to vote red. How did Trump do in safe red states?

    Incorrect.

The people actually running this country hate you, and hate the country. Trump mildly inconvenienced them, so they will schizophrenically paint him as the ultimate boogieman as leverage for their never ending political war against this country and its foundation.

It doesn't matter who it is, anyone who ruffles the feathers of the actual power players will receive the same treatment. Which is why the right needs to stop worrying about the optics game that they lost 20 years ago, and focus on actually fixing the problem.

They went to the polls this election with the message that if you don't support them, you oppose democracy, and people actually went for it.

Do you know where this eventually leads if we keep letting them decide how we present ourselves?

I wonder what the DNC/Media/Big Tech talking points would be in 2024 if Trump does not run.

By the metrics you listed, many, myself included, thought 2020, let alone 2022 would be a Red Wave. The ballot harvesting/curing/procuring/creation were covered by Trump's polarizing personality.

If Trump's not on the ticket, how does the ballot harvesting/curing/procuring/creation get explained?

So many wonderful points have been made in the multitude of election threads. It may not matter who runs in 2024 or ever again. The infrastructure put in place by Democrats (or the infrastructure Republicans have allowed to be put in place) in Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Phoenix and Las Vegas, whether completely organic, digital and tech driven or a mix have ensured the PA, MI, WI, GA, AZ and NV will not vote Republican again in statewide races, Senate races and Presidential elections because they can control the vote total all they want. I'm surprised Lombardo won in NV.

The Democrat machine will go to the urban centers and create whatever vote total they need. This is how they believe they can defeat the Electoral College. Who needs the suburban housewife or the college educated when votes can be harvested/cured/procured/created for each resident of the concrete plantation? "Hi, I'm here to register you to vote. And I brought the ballot. And it's already filled it out for you. Make your mark here. I also brought other ballots, just to make it easy for anyone else living here. You deserve for your voice to be heard."

And the Obama Campaign had to give them phones.....? Pfffft, what were they thinking. This harvesting costs nothing but whatever they're paying the toadies.

And if anyone thinks this load of BS will stop with the purple states that voted for Trump in 2016, think again. They will put this playbook in every blue county in every red state.

This is why Governor's Races, SOS Races, and the Statehouses are so important.

Simple answer: Democrats stayed home in 2016 because they thought it was a lock, but Trump’s win scared them all to the polls in 2020. Trumpland’s response to 2020 drove them out in record numbers in 2022.

The fact is most Americans dislike Trump. Sure, Trump got more votes than any incumbent in history…but 12,000,000,000 more votes were cast in the presidential election in 2020 vs 2016…and a greater percentage of voters chose, well..not Trump.

One thing seems absolutely certain about Donald Trump: he motivates people to vote.

    You're measuring the wrong thing.

If the media only put Trump on air as often as Bush or Clinton, I don't believe things would be remotely the same. Especially if the media was only as biased as they were back then. His administration was not anymore turbulent than past administrations, his policies were not remotely radical or harsh. He had fumbles, wins, and losses, like any administration.

It would have been business as usual, as it had been for the past couple hundred years.

We've had abrasive presidents and abrasive politicians before, and they never created such drastic reactions with such minor statements.

One doesn't even have to go very far back in history either, just look at the recent speech from Biden where he declared half of the country terrorist threats. I don't see this running on every media outlet 24/7, like they did with Trump's comebacks to reporters.

It's not the people you see who are controlling how you think, it's the people you don't see.

They are trying to polarize this country into a real war.

This part intrigues me. I wonder if it is some subconscious bleed over from gaming, where the only issues are big issues. It is like they get more buy in by pumping up the issues to existential levels - that more young people are motivated by saving the world (green revolution) or saving democracy (maintaining Democrat control) because it exaggerates the importance of their own role in the process

I think most conservatives dramatically over estimate the mental capacity of the average person.

The vitriol and angst espoused against Trump is frightening. People call him Hitler; and believe themselves when they say it. Hitler killed millions, Trump tried to build a wall to secure America from what can only be called an invasion. Talk about "extremist" views! This whole midterm election kerfuffle about Trump is bewildering and sad. The man's policy platform is America First and people act offended by it. Those saying they are now against Trump were never really with Trump. This is proven by the fact people aren't saying I like Desantis more, rather they'll vote for Desantis because they dislike Trump.
