Austin was progressive when I lived down there way back in 1993-1996. It's been a hub for artists and musicians for decades but politically it wasn't like CA. That is changing and fast, my son lives down there now.
Yeah, theyve drank the Kool Aid and lots of Californians are moving there.

Theyve banned plastic bags, and charge you per paper bag if you forgot your reusable. When I discovered it, I was talking to the cashier about it and she gave me sage advice. "Honey, if you dont like it, I suggest shopping anywhere the other side of that street over there. That's the city limit, and they dont have the rule over that way. I think its ridiculous."

I visited both Austin and San Francisco shortly before the pandemic hit. I found the beggars in Austin to be considerably more numerous and aggressive than the ones in San Francisco. BBQ was really good though, just hard to get past the beggars.

    How utopian.

Let them live with the consequences of their decisions. At some point people will either wise up and pull their heads out of their asses or die. I'm in favor of kicking the west coast states out of the union and requiring extensive background checks on anyone wanting to relocate here. Tons of people from CA have moved to the Austin, TX area and are lining up to do the exact same stupid liberal **** they did back home.

I'll get "UNVACCINATED" tattooed across my forehead if the liberals will get "MORON" tattooed on theirs. At least then we could tell from a distance who is a threat and who isn't. You can't turn fairy tales into reality by voting for other morons who believe it can be done.
It’s nice to see the smash and grabs hitting the upper class shopping establishments. They really can’t ignore it when it affects them, although the fact that they haven’t quite figured out the answer yet is somewhat amusing.

From .gov's perspective, they most certainly are. Just roll over and take it. Nothing you can do about it.

    SUBMIT.

When you consider how government policy over many years has chased manufacturing out of this country and set it up so all the stuff we don't make any more enters this country through a state run by loons, it seems absurd.

It only seems absurd because it is.

What, in your opinion, gains as a result?

So what happens when a convention comes to town? They are stuck with only the rooms still empty?
Who has to evict the crazy dude that decides its HIS room now?
And who covers the cost to rehab the room because they trashed it and it now smells?

Absolute insanity. When will these idiots finally run these politicians out on a rail?

This is maybe the best example of the disconnect I have ever seen, we are in complete agreement on the words, but not what they mean.

“Freedom from repressive state governments that want to tell you what to believe and threaten you with felonies if you don’t toe their line.”

So the city picks up the tab on the rooms for the homeless folks? I can see some companies cashing in on this by dedicating a building for the homeless and rigging the up or down occupancy in the regular buildings to basically provide rooms at big city hotel rates. A gold mine where you always have full occupancy at full rates.

They have spent 13 BILLION on homelessness in 2019,20,and 21 and have nothing to show for it.
I am sure 2022 will be a new record for spending.

Why/how is it that states can go so far into debt with obviously no intention of ever paying it off? I get the whole federal gov't/federal reserve scam but how does it work for the states? Who is extending the credit? Do they get it from the fed gov't?

Somehow, someway these scumbags will make everyone else pay for their wasteful, irresponsible and criminal behavior/spending.

I hope Newsom gets Monkey Pox covering every square inch of his worthless body and it last for months and scars him severely. Evil people deserve evil experiences.

You mean besides more homeless encampments, and people using the streets to shoot up and take a dump. And crime.

You get more of what you incentivize.

When the big debt problem becomes unavoidable the state or feds will set up a commission to sort things out, like with NYC in the 70s and GM in 09. While they don't like to use the term bankruptcy, that is where they all end up. Bond holders take haircuts and the remaining debt is rescheduled out over a period of time.

And this is perpetuated by those dumb enough to lend them the money, or by those corrupt that profit from loaning OPM. As you often say, follow the money…

In the private sector I've observed slick operators buy small companies loaded with debt then negotiate with the unsecured creditors to take haircuts in return for continued purchases. Where I used to work this happened countless times, management wanted to keep sales going even when it was obvious that the customer was on a ballistic trajectory. I wondered if it was just hope that things would get better or not being able to admit it was a mistake to begin with. In the end after the secured creditors get their share you count yourself lucky if you got a nickle on the dollar.

Was it a publicly held company or a privately owned one?

Sometimes public companies are more worried about revenue than profit.

Private company. What surprised me the most was sales wanting to restart the game all over again after our losses. Not my end of the operation and something I'll probably never understand.
