Just further evidence that we, as a society, have so much crime because crime is so tolerated in wide swathes of our society. Can you imagine this burglary taking place in an area with neighbors involved and willing to make a stand for each other? To *at least* call 911 and report suspicious activity leading up the buglary? It'd be nigh impossible. Cops will get the blame, but until the general citizenry is ready to intervene with a least a 'hue and cry' and then cooperate as witnesses, cops are well behind the power curve.

You've no idea how many Murders are 'solved' but can't be cleared or prosecuted because known witnesses didn't see nuffin...
That seems to be a feature of bad neighborhoods, and one of the contributors to what makes it bad. The "good" neighborhoods tend to have people willing to call the police when they see things that look out of place. When my neighbor goes on vacation I look out for his place. When I go on vacation he looks out for mine.

Probably a lot of factors go into why some neighborhoods don't have that.

I agree with the idea that you were targeted, sounds like the thieves knew what they wanted and when you were home.

Masks covered their hair as the walked down the street. This was planned for sure.

But I am worried because I have a lot of guitar cases all over the house. I know from their departure video they didn't take any of those but that might be incentive for them to return with a big truck.

My home-owner insurance only goes up to $2500 on guns without a rider. I didn't know that and didn't think how fast my guns' value had added up.

    Check with your agents, people.

Hide in plain sight. Hollowed out book, shelf that stores guns, secret compartment in a wall are all options to supplement a safe. Plus don’t broadcast what you have or how you keep them

I semi-suspect my neighbor whose camera caught them. He's a convicted rapist and he got me talking a few months ago and I slipped about having some guns. I tried to downplay it after I realized I shouldn't be talking about them but that was probably obvious. I have a lousy poker face.

You should probably check into an alarm system. Maybe take your valuables to a family members for awhile if it's possible.

I've thinned a lot recently and this is my current approach. Also 100% of home invasions happen in the home, it's why I'm always carrying. I don't care if it's at the dinner table, in the recliner, or working out. The furthest away my pistol will ever be is during... well... you get the idea, is arm length.

I've been robbed working at a gas station and a victim of a home invasion. It's not a good feeling having a gun in your face. I won't go into details, but I don't screw around, at all. I even have door stoppers that screech like a bat out of hell, among other things. If I'm home I will know you are there and I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Like BehindBlueI's said, they might be back, especially if nothing (arrests) comes from this initial robbery and they know there are things they "left" behind. I'm not saying this to alarm you, just to help get your ducks in a row if they do decide that course and they mistake you not being home when you are.

    Man that sucks...

We got burglarized many years ago but all they got was a small amount of cash from the counter. I still have scrape marks on my safe door where they tried to pry it open. I agree with the feeling of being violated.

Now, with three full size GSD's, I don't worry.

Yes, you need a personal articles policy with each gun listed separately. Insurance for this is cheap and the deductible is zero. They should absorb your deductible btw, so get the entire $2500.

I have mentioned before that everyone needs to check there insurance policies on coverage, fire usually is covered well, theft not so good. i know from past experience. If your a collector the insurance can get pretty expensive too. Sorry about your loss OP but i do believe you were set up and i would get the heck out of that neighborhood asap if possible and yes German Shepherds can be a big deterrent too!!!!!!

Ten loaded AR mags... that's over $400 right there between the mags and ammo.

And I am expecting a return performance. But my lovely / amazing insurance agent Linda Aton of State Farm in Westfield (shameless plug) said she thinks she has an alarm system gathering dust she'll give me free. And I'm installing a loud-arsed alarm if I don't think it's deafening enough to make someone physically ill.

And I'm going to seal that door since I can't even get the dryer out that direction anyway. I have two other doors that are pretty secure.

Another vote for an alarm. You can get a simplisafe system easily. I dont like them, but they are better than nothing. And easy to set up.

Also on the insurance, if you are on State farm, its cheaper to do a separate jewelry and valuables standalone policy than adding a rider to homeowners. Plus the rider requires at LEAST an itemized list, if not photographs on file with them. The rider inventory can be reported to them after the fact at the time of loss.

EDIT Lowes Sells RING alarms. Simplisafe is direct from them only.

The policy says $2500 limit by theft of firearms, but does not provide a definition of firearms. I define it as the gun only. Not accessories, or AMMO. File a claim and list them all separate.

I don't know for sure, but you may get pushback on the ammo, at least as far as insuring it before the fact, since it's considered a consumable item.

Just figures. Almost 18 years here, and this is the first real problem I've had other than a few packages stolen off the porch. And I was planning to move next year if the housing market crashes.
