Why they would change some of the top rated shows in the city is beyond me.

Maybe they diversified to buy a bundle of stations that actually got listeners and made money? Whats the old saying? If you cant beat the competition, buy them out?

I also wonder if this isn't why?

While all of their anchor shows have their quirks, as williamsburg mentions, I don't think Hammer and Nigel are fudging when they speak of their show's large number of listeners. Last I heard, Tony was still syndicated with other stations across the nation?

At the end of the day terrestrial radio is dying, you can listen to what you want, when you want, more than ever now. Mostly commercial free. I am to the point that I will not turn on radio even if I do not have a phone to BT from, cannot stand it. At the end I even was getting tired of all the commercials on Rush and his in show commercials too. I started reading the transcripts on his website. I know he had podcasts, I just never did them…

During my stint on day shift, I tried to listen to Bob & Tom again. I had a roughly 20 minute drive to my office and I guarantee you that over 10 minutes was either regular commercials or the sponsored bits the B&T crew do in the studio. The actual bits, news, sports, etc. were well under 50% of the content.

Oddly, Spanish language radio seems to have fewer commercials, but I like the commercials for my purposes. Heard about some interesting restaurants, as well.

Hope that's the case. Seems anymore that anything thats left leaning or just completely left will just buy out whatever it is conservative the get rid of it. The left leaning on rugers board comes to immediate mind

i tried Amazon music, I wasn’t overly impressed. Regardless I can’t use my phone in my work truck, it’s got an old Kenworth brand CD player head unit, no frills except more bass than the speakers can handle!
I mostly listen to pandora or podcasts, and for older vehicles (all of mine!), you can get a little bluetooth transmitter. It plugs into a cigarette lighter and your phone connects to it, then it broadcasts, short range, an FM station. You can even find sites where you punch in your zip code and it recommends stations that will have the least amount of bleed through. I have a frequency that works all through Indy with no troubles.

Really really hope they don't mess with the shows. I listen to hammer and Nigel and kendel and Casey all the time. And of course the gun guy. But guess like everything thats conservative itll eventually get phased out
Maybe they will bump Katz and bring Mmoja Ajabu in from WITT 91.9?

Their website (https://urban1.com) says "We are one of a kind" and I am sure they are.

    Ought to be a hoot.

I’m going to go against the grain here but some people enjoy listening to a radio broadcast, I mean I could do with about 80% less commercials, but I’m by myself all day, driving around all over and it’s nice to actually have something you can think about while you’re driving, versus staring off into space, daydreaming that you’re in a race car or that you have missles and those bug guts on your windshield is your reddot…

It is not radio vs. nothing, it is radio vs. my music, podcasts, etc. Cannot even fathom listening to music selected by others now and certainly love no commercials ever in my music.

I hear you but do not understand it.
I don't have any songs stored on my phone. I don't stream anything. I don't listen to podcasts (listening to people talk bores the crap out of me. People complain about having to hear commercials but to me, listening to someone drone on endlessly is the same or worse than commercials). Why would I want to tether it to my car radio?

Streaming everything from the phone is great if you have unlimited data and a decent signal everywhere you go. Not everyone does.

I have unlimited everything. I use my phone to... wait for it... make phone calls and send texts. That's about it.

ETA: Oh yeah, I do use Google maps for navigation. So I'm cool, right? :):

I think you may be best described as a old Fuddy Dutty. And I mean that with the upmost respect. A man who knows what he likes and will not change "just because" its what everyone does.
Rock that CD player like its 1999 :rockwoot:
