I recommend Sean Fox at For Fox's Sake Off-road. He's in the Bargersville area and does impeccible work. He really knows his stuff and takes his time to do it right. He did the re-gear on my JL and it was perfect. It was the first JL he did, and he did his homework.

Also, I've heard nothing but praise from folks with the Metalcloak lift. Sean might be able to get you a good price on it, too.

Interesting. Looks like he works on Yotas as well. Have to keep this in mind if I ever need that kind of work on my FJ.

We returned Friday from an 8 day trip to the northern portion of the Appalachian Byway. It ran from Vermont through New Hampshire, and into Maine. The late peak of the fall colors this year made our timing perfect. It was a mix of pavement, dirt roads, gravel roads, and pavement. Vermont had the most fun trails, including some that went down creek beds. We stopped at Jericho Mountain State Park and ran the 4x4 trails and earned Jeep Badges of Honor. But whoever rated those trails is NUTS. The green trail was a blast, but much harder than one would expect. It really challenged us and I got my Jeep stuck worse than ever. It took us an hour and a combination of Hi-Lift jack and winch with snatch block to get it out! I beat the hell out of the skid plates, especially the differential sliders, but didn't really hurt the Jeep. Lower shock mountings took some hits, too. Anyway, a guy in an overlanding Jeep with 37's tried a blue trail and beads on 2 of his tires came unseated 50' into the trail! Anyway, most of it was just gorgeous scenery, camping, and great food.

The JL was a beast and my 18yo son drove the old JK. It handled went everywhere the JL did, even Jericho Mountain! The JK clicked over 160,000 miles!

One of the highlights of the trip was the B-52 crash site on Elephant Mountain near Mooshead Lake. It is now a memorial to the 7 crew who perished. Very sad but nice to see that nobody has vandalized it nor does it look like people have walked off with parts. It is a very respectful place. So we said a prayer for the servicemen and stood in awe of the wreckage scattered all over the mountainside since 1963!

We drove a total of 3,046 miles. We had two 2008 JK's, 1 2017 JK, a Gladiator, and my 2018 JL. We'll certainly go back again one day. Sadly, we saw no moose. It was hunting season and I think the moose knew it. Same for bears.

Well, my wife finally got rid of what she called the Mom Van, which was a 15 passenger Ford Transit. It served us well, but she was sick of it and wanted something fun. So she found a very low mileage 2021 Rubicon! So we've got red, white, and blue Jeeps in an all Jeep garage! From front to back, 08 JK, 21 JL, and 18 JL. We don't really need the JK, but with 162k miles of memories and running like new, we just can't bear to get rid of it. She always wanted a white Jeep for herself, so I'm thrilled she got her wish!

I did help my friend do his brakes (new pads and rotors) on his JK Unlimited. I bought a breaker bar just in case. Glad I did as the bolts that held the brake pad holder on were put on with air tools or something. Ratchets and hitting the ratchets with rubber mallets did nothing. The 25" breaker bar I bought earlier that day and the socket to fit it unstuck the bolts in one second.
That was my first Jeep, Jake Blue. Jake's gone now but I have another 2008, this time an Unlimited Rubicon, called the Rusticon or Rusty for short! Lift kit and such going on over the winter so look for the big debut next spring at the Badlands!

@PlaysInTheDirt - you are the BEST of company, we love Jeepin' with you and the Mrs!! And that 40+ yr old CJ is undeniably impressive, I never knew Jeeps could do what they do until we hit the Badlands in your rig.
Just remember it was 4 banger, no lift, Willies that won WW2, along with the 11b's who got to enjoy the ride a time or two (beats riding in a "helo-deuce" any day of the week!!!). If you can find them, the WW2 trial movies of Jeeps is IMPRESSIVE!!!! In Burma and the Philippines, they used Jeeps as train locomotives!!!! They actually carried a second set of 4 wheels, with no tires, and an abrasive on the steel rim!!!! I saw a video of them....some had 4 to 5 LOADED box cars behind them, with ammo and other heavy supplies.....and the Jeep "thought it could....and did!!!"

(Not a biased JEEP owner here........lol

In my estimation it's about 50% rig/build and 50% driver experience but lack of either can often be compensated by abundance of the other!

My CJ-5 is a '77. 258/t150/d20 on 31's....pretty much stock except for the fiberglass body. My offroad experience is not extensive but there is a lot of experience in our club and when I want to I can take direction well! I was even more impressed with my CJ at Badlands than Hopper was.

Just got a FCA notice for a PCM Software Update for 'certain 2020 Jeep Gladiators' with the 3.6. Anybody else here get the notice? Guess I call O'Brien down here on the south side to get it scheduled.

I believe it is a firmware flash to correct a problem where if a misfire is detected, it doesn't warn you with a check engine light. WIth the recall flash, it will display the CEL if a misfire is detected so that you can get it checked and serviced. It is considered an emissions defect.

That's my understanding. Lots of folks with 2020's are receiving the notice. The good news is that it is a quick flash, so it shouldn't take long at all if you make an appointment and they get right on it.
