Oakland City Man Arrested after Dispute over Alleged Illegal Burn
Gibson County – Thursday night, September 30, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Oakland City Fire Department responded to an illegal burn on the property of 123 South Jackson Street. Firefighters were discussing the city burn ordinance with the homeowner, Anthony Maltimore, 37, when a nearby neighbor, Timothy Lance, 59, approached the homeowner. Lance and Maltimore started to argue over the incident and firefighters stepped in between the two men to separate them. Lance produced a handgun and allegedly pointed it at Maltimore and toward several firefighters.

Oakland City Police and Indiana State Police responded to the scene. After investigating the alleged incident, Trooper Roberts arrested Lance for Intimidation, a Level 5 Felony and Pointing a Firearm, a Class A Misdemeanor. Lance was taken to the Gibson County Jail where he was later released after posting bond.
No injuries were reported during this incident.

Just to make sure I am tracking here, somebody burned something presumably in town limits, fire department shows up, they are discussing the matter. The guy who got cuffed and stuffed is actually a third-party who just showed up?

    Seems odd doesn't it?

Wonder what's been left out of this story? Also wonder if the "gunfighter" neighbor is the one who called in the illegal burn?

    Whole different thoughts...

No offense to the state police, but this is their side of it. Cops occasionally do get things wrong and do occasionally sensationalize to their advantage. :dunno:

Yeah, let us disregard the information given by the firefighters because ISP is just trying to sensationalize the arrest of a 100% innocent, law-abiding gun owner.

By my reading, yes. Man is burning stuff in the yard, fire department shows up to talk to him about it, neighbor grabs his gun and goes over to argue about it, firefighters try to break it up, neighbor pulls gun.

I only suggested that was a possibility, my friend. :)

"Arsenals" confiscated in red flag sort of seizures come to mind.

Looking like there may have been some dispute about who owned what was being burned, or where it was being burned.
Or possibly the proper amount of beer to be consumed while burning.
Maybe just some long standing beef...

These two upstanding citizens seem to share a less than "well-defined" property line.

So Tim lives in a hallway?

My place is pretty dang small, but at least I can't reach over and touch both sides from the outside.

There appears to be a demilitarized zone. Maybe a utility right-of-way looking at the shadow.
Yeah, I think that's where the confusion might lay.
Is the "driveway" actually an "alley"?
Is the utility pole on Tim's property, or do the lots on Columbia end short of the drive/alley/fence from Jackson?

Without two surveys in agreement, a court of law may not be persuaded. Even then, that may not be enough evidence to escape neighborhood Thunderdome.

So Tim lives in a hallway?
Street view shows a older single-width. Certainly not hosting Thursday Ladies' Tea...

You have obviously never given a statement to someone in the media and had them twist your words.
Had a neighbor who was a state trooper. He could go down to the Pike County paper and review the story and facts then double check everything was correct. Then when the paper came out they just ignored everything he said.
