Indianapolis woman speaks about search for mother, says more needs to be done to help find missing people of color

While there is a point to be made here, I don't think it's solely minorities that don't seem to be searched for. I'm sure hundreds of people of all races go missing everyday. Not all of them (not by a long shot) garner the attention of Gabby Petito's case, or Lauren Spierer's case. I'd call it more of a "Missing Pretty Blonde Girl" Syndrome. I think that the families and communities determine how much attention a case gets. I don't know how one changes that.

And I love the "See! The FBI has plenty of resources! Look how much they are putting into finding this pretty white girl. That means they have the resources to search for ALL the POCs and Native Americans that go missing every year!"

Um, no. That's not what that means. You buy a car. Just because you had the money to buy ONE car, doesnt mean you have the money to buy EVERY car that is offered to you. Sure, you could have bought a truck instead. But not both.

This stuff pisses me off. It's interesting how POC getting murdered every day in inner cities aren't enough to rile them up though.

What's awful about it is some gorgeoud young girl out to explore the world, plenty of video footage, and a super sketchy disappearance and someone to hate. Nothing to do with skin color.

They want the police to be defunded, and harass them at every turn, causing a mass exodus of cops to choose another career, but then, when they need the police, and things don’t have an immediate fairytale ending, then the police are racist because of the murder of a white girl that made National news.

We need an asteroid to strike this planet.

I’ve been on a lot of searches, and pretty white girls from better off families do get the most response, by a lot. As noted, community response plays a huge role in this.

Yep. Community response has a LOT to do with it. As the good doctor noted, maybe if more pretty white girls were killed every day we would also be numb to them and not raise an eyebrow for them either?

A 16 year old was shot and killed at a school bus stop in inner city Louisville this past week, and in the news reports, an illustrious citizen of that neighborhood was interviewed. He actually said “they ain’t no movie theater or skating rink in this neighborhood, nuffin fo kids to do, so of course they gonna kill each other”!

That was the logical progression to this guy! And he was an adult!

Well sure, when we were kids and got bored, we'd kill each other all the time.

I'm never been a Missings Person detective, so I don't know all their tips and tricks...but a lot of missing people there's just nothing to go on. No clues as to where they are or were they might be. There's limits to what you can do to find them when they aren't the suspect of a crime and there's not good evidence their life is in danger. The vast majority turn back up on their own or where never really "missing" to begin with, they just didn't want to talk to their family or whatever.

The biggest responses at the local level are for autistic kids. I've been involved in a lot of those searches. Sometimes they have a happy ending, sometimes they don't, but it's pretty rare the media cares about the first type. They might have a blurb about the drowned one if it's a slow news day.

Summer out of school was a magical time wasn't it?
Carving shanks out of sticks was my favorite.
Garrotes out of fishing line leaders was a solid go to, plus you could just dump the body in the river.
    Ah, memories.

    Rich people get more attention.
Social media influencers get more attention. (like this girl)
People who do really stupid stuff (they can make fun of you) get more attention.
People with a connection (senator's niece, mayor's daughter) get more attention. (well, maybe NOT the president's son... )

People of color from crap-hole democrat run cities DON'T get any attention. They can't have any attention drawn to the fact that these people are hurting from bad local policies to begin with.
