My Dad discharged from the Army at camp Atterbury in 1947 after returning from Europe.

Was he originally from Indiana? Or decided to settle here?

Nope. Ashville NC. Got his papers final pay and took a bus to Indianapolis. Found a apartment and job and sent for a girl he met (My Mom) on the way back while at a British base in Northern Ireland. She came over on a boat. He drove to Ellis Island in NY picked her up and got married. Came back to Indy and built a life. Took a job at a Ford plant in Indy and led a very responsible life until he passed at age 92.

Didn't Trump institute a policy (or maybe enforce an existing policy) for refugees about them having to go to the first "safe" country nearest to their home country? I was thinking that was done to stop so many Central American "refugees" from simply crossing Mexico to the US border to claim refugee status. Shouldn't this policy also apply to the Afghans? Fly them to Qatar, or Saudi Ababia, etc.. Why bring them here at all?

Look at the political changes Obama put in place to bring us the towel head Brother jumper. Dumped a huge load of angry alledged refugees and completely changed the landscape of an entity area.

A friend of mine who is in the NG said that refugees in Texas (I think that's where she said...a few adult beverages were being consumed at the time) are creating all kinds of havoc. They have access to most of the base. The guardsmen were told to keep their doors locked due to all the theft going on. Oh, the refugees are also shi**ing in the streets.

I think it takes a lot of courage to leave behind one's home, family and culture to come to a strange place like the U.S., which isn't supposed to have a war in progress, but where people are shooting one another willy nilly in the streets. I suspect that the vast majority of these Afghans will be no big problem for us and will in fact be an asset to the communities where they settle. The Vietnamese who were allowed to come to the U.S. after the communist takeover of their country, mostly prospered, despite blatant racism that they faced in certain areas. Every group has their percentage of undesirables. Lord knows we have more than our share of home grown problem people. I am ashamed to see some of the posts on here.
