The US made the right choices before they adopted the sig P320.

The ar15 and the 92fs are probably the best evolved of any firearms in military service in the world.
At the risk of a thread jack, I’ll disagree on the 92fs. For the role it needed to play, it wasn’t great. I’ve got no love for it, and I’m thrilled to have it replaced with the 320.

The 92fs was VERY heavy compared to modern striker fired pistols, and every ounce matters. It was also quite complicated being SA/DA, with a manual safety/decocker. Not too complicated if you’re a gun guy that likes to shoot, but the M9 qual range was always a mess, with lots of shooters that struggled with it. Keep in mind that medics, fat old transport officers, etc have to qualify with the thing, and 99.9% of their job is everything but shooting.

Maybe the M17/18 is not the perfect solution, but IMHO it’s a big improvement.

Depends upon when you served I guess, my first two years in the Army I carried the PIG, an M-60 Maxine gun and learned to love it.
A .45 auto on my hip during those days too.
M16A1’s, M-203 Grenade Launcher, definitely over my 21 year career. I served as an exchange NCO with the British Fusiliers (C co 1RRF) but didn’t like the bull pup SA-80.
AK-47, AKM’s AK-74 series I loved, and the M-240. SAW I wish I had more time with, I really loved that one.
I was high shooter in my outfit and still chose the M60 because I am a .30 cal guy. If I was in when my son served it would have been the SOCOM 14.

Let's face it, on planet earth with this gravity and atmosphere I am convinced .30 cal is the way to go.

I would like a LMT Brit Rifle THE L129A1 and "Old slab side" 1911 in .45 ACP

Older I would like The Springfield U.S. Rifle, Cal. .30, M1903A4 and "Old slab side" 1911 in .45 ACP

    Older yet I would take a .45-70 Trapdoor and a Schofield .45 Schofield or a 1851 Navy in .36.

Yes Mongo I reported into my unit and they said big boy your getting an M-60, I guess the 240 replaces them, moving through the ranks, an M-203, M-16A1, always a .45 ( I didn’t like the M-9), and I had to qualify with the M-249, but was never issued one.
The AK family too I fired as much as I could when available and the British SA-80, were my military time weapons. I always wanted to fire a .50 cal, never got the chance, same with the Mk-19, oh I saw them in action, never got the chance to shoot them.
But I was “Old Army”, 1970’s through the 190’s.
It’s a whole new world today.
