Broad but not excessively broad. The Islam of Jordan or the Gulf States would not fit this description. It is a very fair characterization of ghe Islam of Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Yemen, or any Islamic state ending in -stan. The Islam of the Asian Islamic states seems to fit as well although I haven't studied it deep enough to speak with authority.

Edit: I neglected to point out that Somalia is one of those places where you either fully comply with fundamental Islam or the rest if your life gets really short. It is also one of the worst septic pits on the face of the planet.
