I killed over 35 last year. Either used the trap linked below or shot them in the head with a pellet gun. I live in the suburbs. Hadn’t seen any for months. Then two weeks ago I killed 5 in 3 days. 3 were in one night. Just got another wed night. And earlier that night there were two in the yard at once. The bird feeders attract them. I used to trap them but got tired of them destroying everything in their reach until I got them in the morning. Now I just pop them at night when I see them on camera. But this trap below is great. Be sure to get the setter. I put a long piece of rebar that I bent over in the ground. The coons will destroy any vegetation, wood, etc in the reach while this thing has them.

It’s a great trap. Just be sure to anchor well and that a raccoon won’t be within reach of anything you care about. I took a 6 foot piece of rebar and bent one end over so it looked like a j. Then drove it into the ground away from everything but where the raccoon will find it. I’m able to get to the very top of the rebar and it leaves the top of a looped end just at ground level. Then I use a threaded carabiner to attach the trap to that. They also make a cheap setter that is a U shaped rod that easily sets the trap. I set it then put it in the ground while attached to the rebar. Either cat food or marshmallows into the trap. Those greedy things can’t resist getting every single one. And they don’t get trap smart on these. I’ve never had a raccoon get out of these though. Good luck. I’m sure you will catch plenty!

my neighbor thinks it's fun to feed them. We've seen one coming out about every evening to her driveway to get her treats.
if we didn't live in the city limits I'd dispatch it when she wasn't around.
I don't believe in going around killing stuff without a purpose, but I don't want these things around my little kids.

Wait til she gets one with distemper hanging around her house during the day.

I’d hate it if my neighbor did that. Mine have bird feeders too that the raccoons raid, and they are glad when I exterminate some.

Years ago I was happy to nurse a baby back to health and later turn it loose in a wooded swamp. But now...
I don't want to put up with a critter being a nuisance no matter how cute it is. I really dislike killing anything but hey, coons get to be mice with muscle.

Don’t your dogs keep them at bay?

We have two lgd‘s and we have 0 problems with Coons, possums, or little ankle biter dogs that thought it was a good idea to go where it was not welcome.

WE had 2 bat:poop: crazy old lady neighbors that loved to feed all the kittys. It took 5 years to cull that mess down to a manageable size.

Dont kill the opposums. They are nature's garage disposal and ensure all the dead stuff gets eaten thus no disease for other animals or us. Let them do their job.

Question about the pond. Does drowning them not contaminate the water? Maybe not one but if you did that to multiple of them?
Just how clean IS your pond? Ducks, blue herons, and Redwing blackbirds **** in mine daily. That's not counting the countless fish, snakes, turtles, frogs, and crawdads that live there. And I filter and drink that water. I don't think dunking the occasional coon is gonna make much difference.

Received the trap yesterday and set it up last night. Used marshmallows as bait.
Got a youngish boar in it this AM.
    So far, I'm impressed.

This may be an option for us.
The live traps have only been successful about 1/3 to 1/2 the time.
We have been inundated with coons this year... they've destroyed suet feeders. Demolished our strawberries and made homes for themselves under the deck and in the barn.
Down by the river I see their tracks and multiple dead crawdads.

I just got the DP trap in yesterday. I looked and have no sweet bait. going to try with some feline food. Have some coons getting into the attic of an old place. Thinking I might run a cable around a stud and see if I get one since the live trap is not working very well.

On a side note, I watched a few videos of people who run these. Most make setting the thing look easy as anything. That spring is pretty rugged for me old hands. I got it set, but the set stick would have made it easier.

Very nice. Good job. Marshmallows are good. Also suet nuggets from menards work well too. They are greedy and will keep going to get the very last one.

I linked the trap setter above. Those coons are usually good and pissed off by morning when I find them. I’ve had some young timid ones that didn’t even growl at me. All end up the same though.
