Curious if anyone has used a smoke daddy pellet pro digital pid controller?

Thinking of installing one on my Traeger pro 22 I'm sick of the 70+ temp swings and the fire going out sometimes. I wish I knew about Recteq before I bought my Traeger my uncle's Recteq swings about 3 degrees max.
I don't use a pellet smoker, so correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the temp swing give more smoke? It's my understanding that you can cook just fine without temp swings, but you wont have as much smoke. Some controllers like the Grilla Grills Alpha controller are designed specifically to give broad temp swings to make more smoke. What is it about the temp swing that you don't like?

I just picked up a camp chef woodwind 24. It was between this and the recteq. I like the WiFi Bluetooth color display. It allows you to set the temp in 5 degree increments and adjust the smoke level. When you adjust the smoke level it does warn you that the temp will swing some but it’s still able to maintain a pretty consistent temp. So yes you are correct. You can adjust the smoke from 0 to 10. Lots of other great features as well. Give it a try. I love it so far. I still have my kamado as well.

Yes, the temp swing gives more smoke. A 70 degree temp swing is ridiculous though. Mine swing plus or minus 10-15 degrees.

For the price of that controller I would not do it. I’d sell the traeger grill and add the money you saved from not buying the new controller and get the recteq you want used or a camp chef smokepro SG 24 when its on sale or a used woodwind 24.

Probably what I'll end up doing. Any negatives on your woodwind?

Made some baby back ribs yesterday- 3-2-1. 3 hours at “Low” (180) with the pellet tube, then wrapped in foil, but here’s where it gets interesting. Normally I do the 2 hours meat down on a bed of butter and brown sugar. Couldn’t find the brown sugar (my wife claims I must be blind), but I had some good 100% pure maple syrup. I drizzled a good amount over the butter pats, put the meat side down and wrapped for 2 hours at 225, Last hour, I open the foiled, and turned them over meat side up brushed with BBQ sauce (Rib Rack original). I then rested them for about 45 minutes tented in foil. Never going back to brown sugar. These were spectacular. Fall off the bone, sweet and smoky.

The only complaint is the software updates. if you have any trouble then you have to do an uninstall and reboot every time until it’s done. its just time consuming but other than that it’s great. It’s accurate enough to use as an extra oven and the clean up is a fast and simple. the four built in probes are nice to have but so far only used 2. The Facebook group for camp chef is great with tips and recipes. I use a wool welding blanket with magnets as a blanket in the cold. Camp chef wants $100 for theirs. I will also pick up the sidekick when it’s available again. Ive seen used recteq and camp chefs for sale on marketplace so it should not be hard to get one if you go that route. I didn’t see a ww24 come up locally that’s why I went with new from kohl’s so I could get the kohl’s cash back as a discount. That was the best deal I could find because I was tired of waiting. If you ever go up to Michigan there is a store there that sells them every day for $549.

    Texas.
Wasn't for sure if Yankees knew how to BBQ! JK guys!

In Texas, brisket is probably the most popular meat to smoke for many. And I do love good brisket. As a matter of fact, the 17th of this month, I'm hosting a shooting get together for a few guys on TGT forum, and I'll be doing a brisket and a pork butt on my smoker.

My smoker isn't fancy, since it was built by me about eleven or twelve years ago in my garage. I have smoked lots of different things on that smoker over the years.

As much as I do love to cook, and probably cook more than my wife, grilling and smoking as far as cooking, are my passion. Of course I do love to make Texas chili too!

A brisket, a pork loin and a whole chicken I smoked for the guys last spring here at the house.

Oh man I almost broke a sweat today in long sleeves.
I'm gonna go dig around in the freezer and then decide on cherry or hickory.

I think my wife thinks she's being sneaky.

She's getting a larger than expected bonus from work this month. She mentioned getting another RecTeq grill, the Bullseye. Basically a replacement for my 22" Weber. I said, cool.

The next day she was like, well, we really need to do some landscaping/sprucing up outside. I said, I'm fine with that too. It's your bonus, do what you'd like with it.

Guess she didn't set up a new account with RecTeq cause I just got an email order confirmation for a Bullseye, 200 pounds of pellets, and a fancy BBQin apron.

I'll act surprised when it shows up.

    Undercover ATF?

Welcome Axxe, would love to see a pic of your smoker.

i did some cheese Sun. but forgot to take some pics.

Here ya go! The main smoke chamber is a 60 gallon hydraulic tank off a wet kit for a pump truck. The firebox is an air tank from a Mack truck as are the lid holders are axle U-bolts. The smoke stack is off an old Chrysler.

The only thing I bought were the lid hinges and the thermometers. Most everything else was scavenged from junk. It's not the prettiest smoker, but it sure does work good.

    Thanks guys!

My grill, is also hand made junk as well, but I can do some pretty good burgers, steaks and chickens on it.

It's made from a water heater tank.
