Might I suggest you start with the Chinese and see how that goes? They produce almost as much CO2 all by themselves as the rest of the industrialized world put together, and incremental gains by a large producer will have a greater effect

Have the Chinese DONE anything besides promise to improve? Are they using those solar panels or do they just want to sell them to us? Which countries are holding the line or reducing their CO2 production levels already

All this without even making the case that 'climate change' is even preventable or that the US going to net zero will have much of an effect or that that effect will be worth the cost

C'mon Bug. China is just a developing nation. Cut 'em some slack.

    At what environmental cost?
The raw material needed for battery banks capable of holding any reasonable amount of power would be devastating to the environment.
Then, once the storage systems are built, they would need to be rebuilt every 5-7 years.
Anyone who deals with industrial UPS systems knows this.

We would be better off going with nuke power plants.
Amen, with gov't supporting research into thorium cycle reactors because they resolve proliferation concerns, there is considerably more thorium available in the world than uranium, the reaction/reactors can be shut down by stopping neutron bombardment of the fuel rather than having to absorb the continuing neutron production of the U235 enriched material (the fuel is converted to a fissionable isotope by neutron source bombardment rather than being inherently fissionable) and the wastes created are both more compact and less toxic in terms of fission by-product radioactivity and half-life

That would likely be the low/no CO2 bridge to fusion. The primary reason we have U235 based power was the military was the one doing the basic research

It's not about what is right, it's about feelings. Germany can say they aren't burning coal so they get to feel all good about themselves.

Gosh, hypocrisy rears it's head yet again in a discussion involving lefties. Shocking
Yes. Recent moves away from coal fired generation have resulted in a shut-down of a plant that was on Apache reservation land, provided jobs for many tribal members and used coal also mined on the reservation which provided more jobs

Not sure how that meshes with all the concern for indigenous peoples, I guess we just increase their gov't transfer payments - **** the dignity of work

Is there a stronger word we can use for this guy besides despicable? This unholy coalition of whack jobs will start squabbling among themselves . That may help us throw off the yoke in two years.

On the other hand, last week shows us that a lot of decent folks have reached the tipping point.

Whatever happens, there is no good to come from Dems running the government.

I love how individuals try to correlate shutting down an oil pipeline with a moral duty to better the environment without providing a more secure alternative. I get that new energy should be explored, but that seems explanitorally irrelevant to how best to transport what is needed today.
Crude is typically transported by four means: truck, rail, ship, and pipe. I fail to see how shutting down the pipeline can be justified while pretending that the other means of transportation are any less dangerous. It is just an exercise in political virtue signaling to uninformed individuals.
Excellent post. Also significant is that the rail competing with the Keystone XL just so happens to be owned by Warren Buffett who just so happens to be tighter than bark on a tree with all our favorite leftist politicians.

i find a better approach is to try and educate them as to the problems with their plan. A lot of times they are unwilling to listen because they have been taught differently their whole life, which is a big problem IMO. Give someone the chance to learn, maybe he will do some research and come to a different opinion. Calling names usually isn't the best approach.

he is absolutely right that other avenues need to be explored, there is only so much coal and oil available. I try to think long term.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

you still have to lead them to the water. I didn't say you should spend the rest of your life trying to change their mind. There are plenty that refuse to listen or think for themselves, a couple prime examples exist on the forum

You can't expect people to think about second order effects when they're so busy patting themselves on the back for all the good they've done.

Solar. What a total joke for Indiana.

As the lefty's out themselves I feel less inclined to think we are a 2-A forum anymore.

How a person looks at the world makes me no never mind but if you come into a gun forum and act like you care.........:dunno:

And a 70 year old man is not going to sell his truck. Of course I us it. Why would I have it. Again.....the lefty mindset.

If you want to roll in a battery powered car so be it. "DO NOT TELL ME HOW I SHOULD USE MY TRUCK". I came into this with gasoline and I will go out with it.

    Just dont do it.
I think electric cars are cool. Intriguing. I could see myself buying one as a toy if I have the dollars to throw at it. But for that kind of money I could think of better toys. And I don't think my truck will be replaced with an electric version anytime soon. They just don't have the capacity yet to be a practical replacement.

Can we put you down as a YIMBY when they route the new 750Kv powerlines in your area? Or do you think they'll be run through where the little people live, if you think about that at all
Lots of things get cost-projected. Lot's of projections turn out to be ******** used to justify they thing they want to do, too. I've seen it happen.

This is not part of the Green new Deal playbook.

Pour some oil on concrete and let the sun at it. In time its gone. Leaves a stain but no oil. It evaporates.

that pretty much covers it. You nailed it. Toy.
my sister has a Prius. It serves her needs but she hates it. I hate it as well. We rolled it to Ermo South Carolina when a family member passed and Christmas had the budgets tight. MPG was simply amazing. But that was the most uncomfortable car I have ever drove. Never ever doing that again.

Electric cars were in such demand they had to give tax credits in the thousands to get you to buy one lol.
