I've seen reports on WRTV. They emphasized that they do appreciate valid tips, but apparently some of the "tips" are based on other motives, or else just not legitimate. Lots of facebook/social media "detectives" I think that are just serving to muddy up the waters.

I've seen this and other articles, but the ones I've seen didn't say anything about them being overwhelmed. The 42,000 number is since the start of the case. Since the recent press conference, there's been a couple of thousand. My guess is they'll give priority to tips given since the press conference, since those would be based on the latest info. I get the impression that once the guys name comes up, it's only a matter of time.

Hate to say it, but I think this has moved into the realm of unsolvable cases. Maybe someday they will solve it, but it will not be because of "good police work". It will be a result of happenstance. Luck.

Luck is just as acceptable in crime solving as solid police work. Look at the missing mom from Avon case. A friggen fisherman 100 miles from Avon physically snagged her severed foot with his lure. What are the friggen odds? The gods of luck smile on policework frequently and it is much appreciated

Well said. It really doesn't matter whether the cat is gray or orange so long as it catches the rat.

And I don't disagree with that. Luck is very important.

I heard a brief mention of the investigation on the radio this morning.

I am beginning to wonder if they have anything.... very sad.

I heard the ISP superintendent say yesterday, on Good Morning America, we are one tip away from solving this.

    Thanks Captain Obvious.

I think we can assume that any physical evidence first gathered is the totality of physical evidence.

I think we can also assume that there were no witnesses.

So, unless a new technique or technology is developed to analyze the physical evidence, there won't be a change.
This may be why a new sketch was released. New software may have been able to improve images for a more accurate sketch.

Also, until new witnesses step forward, there won't be a change.

One man's opinion...all of this is smoke. They probably have a profile of who this killer is and they're trying to get him to make a move. I dunno though.

It's not really a new sketch. It was drawn on 17th Feb 2017 based on information from a witness. I think all they need is a name at this point. There's a reasonable chance that they already have the tip, they just haven't run it down yet.

He looks more like the guy in the video than the sketch imo. He also just happened to have handcuffs lying around.

There's a video on youtube (Gray Hughes Investigates) where he shows screenshots of what he says is a FB conversation between Etter and someone working for the police, while he was on the run. They discuss Delphi. He denies any involvement. But he seems to bring it up again later with some bizzare theory.

Just drove under the Delphi bridge on 25 and got chills. So sad that the monster that did this is still out there. Praying that some day soon there will be closure. Hard to believe that it has been almost 3 years ago this week.

I've been following the case on various websites for a while now, and there hasn't really been anything new since last April when they released the new sketch. At the time, many people thought that they had a lot of info, maybe even a suspect. But over time, they clarified a lot of the ambiguous info from the press conference, and it seems like they really don't have any idea who it is.

They described the new sketch as taking the investigation in a "new direction", but since then they have back-pedalled a little - in interviews, some investigators have said that they haven't really ruled out the person in the first sketch, while others have said that they think both sketches could be of the same person.

No one seems to know for sure what forensic info they have. But the most promising thing I've heard is this: there have been lots of so-called "POIs" discussed on social media, and the sister of one of the victims said in an interview that the police told her that anyone that's been sitting in jail for a while and hasn't been identified as a suspect is probably not the guy. In other words, they do have some way of ruling people in or out. Maybe it's DNA, maybe something else, but they're saying that they have something. I'm not holding my breath, but I wouldn't give up hope either.
