Well the good folks in Chicago have totally lost their mind. They want every bullet sold in Illinois to have a serial number. From the article:

"The gun violence in Chicago is at a level not seen in twenty years, and that's led to a proposal that bullets sold in Illinois come with serial numbers which could be traced, just like guns."

Hey, lets add serial numbers to all the bullets! Oh, by the way, we already know someone who can do it for you!

    Apply purple as needed.

Tracing the bullets back to the store that sold them.....
Ok ... Now tie that in with president hitlary's plan to allow gun manufacturers and sellers to be sued.
Starting to see the big picture?
Also, this will drive up costs for the sellers... Another way to drive down sales and put them out of business.
Are the gang bangers stealing guns and ammo really going to be stopped by serial numbers?
No. This will have zero effect on them.
chitcago doesn't have a gun problem....it has a resident problem.

Predicting the future. This passes and catches some people, then they start bringing in ammo from other states that aren't marked.
Then they ban the import of ammo from out of state that does not have serial numbers on them.
That doesn't work so then they blame Indiana for selling non serialized ammo and try to pressure people here to pass similar law.
When that doesn't work they go and make the president try to push for nationwide similar law.
When that doesn't work either, they get mad, go to their safe place, and then work on new more restrictive laws.

Illinois Bureau of Investigation has undeniably concluded that the un- serial numbered bullets, used in the drive-by shooting in south Chicago, were not pre ban bullets, but were infact straw purchased bullets purchased in North West Indiana.

We better go out and get our casting equipment now. I have some lead available for $40 per pound. Get it while you still can.

I suggest that we apply serial numbers to the absentee fathers of the gang members who are causing all the gun violence so we can trace them.

All kidding aside, I think this is the law to solve a lot of suicides.

For the Young Lions of INGO, something similar to this was federal law from 1968 to 1986 as a provision of the GCA/SSA of 1968. Every time you walked in to buy ammunition the FFL would record your name and address in an ammunition book.

The recording of .22 rimfire was abolished in 1982. The centerfire registration was abolished in 1986 with FOPA.

I suggest that we apply serial numbers to the absentee fathers of the gang members who are causing all the gun violence so we can trace them.

I think you are on a Watch List for typing that? Aren't Single Mothers demi-gods in the Left's cosmology?

Serious question: wouldn't the bullet be too deformed to read the serial number after firing, hitting tissue/bone, walls, etc.??

Let's not let science and reason get in the way.

My guess is the bill's author knows this stupid and pointless but is using it as a way to jack up ammo prices sky high. Backdoor gun control that's "common sense".

The media is using incorrect terminology (go figure). This story is about microstamping the case of the cartridge and base of the projectile.

Someone ask them about revolvers and watch their tiny minds explode.:D

This'll be as effective as (in some states) the fired case required with every new firearm sold. After all the trouble and bureaucracy it created, not one criminal case was solved and the program was finally abandon. As others have suggested, this is just another attempt by Chicago crooks in office to put gun shops out of business in Illinois and therefore effectively deny citizens their 2A rights. It really has little to do with crime control, but everything to do with banning guns.
