Sure. A CCW authorizes you under law to Carry a Concealed Weapon.
A LTCH is the same kind of form, but is a License To Carry a Handgun, without specification as to method. Concealed, Open, or duct taped to your forehead... the law is silent on this point. With a CCW, it only permits concealment.

Now... in some states open carry is not restricted by law, and anyone can do so who can lawfully possess the weapon they carry. They only require the permission slip to conceal (as originally, it was expected that people went armed, and only one who did so for nefarious purposes did so in hiding.) Later, the idea was to keep the "wrong people", usually of a different ethnic group than was in power, whether Black, Irish, Italian, whatever, from carrying lawfully.

    Hope that helps!

    Blessings,
    Bill

    Thanks guys,
I think you may be on to something Bill, DTTF (Duct Tape to Forehead). I may try that sometime at the range. =)
It sounds like they are similar, but LTCH doesn't really specify what type of carry. It's good to know I can travel with it locked and in the trunk through the not-so-free states.

Not my original idea, but I don't know whose it is.

As for transporting locked outside of the passenger compartment, you can thank President Reagan for that one. Sure, that's also what got us the Hughes Amendment to the Firearm Owners' Protection Act (FOPA) but this is a good example of why "all or nothing" stances are not beneficial. Purists would demonize Mr. Reagan for signing such an infringement, saying that because of the 11th hour poison pill included courtesy of Charlie Rangel, he should have vetoed the whole of FOPA, but the fact is that that law has had far greater utility since 1986. Admittedly, new-manufactured full auto for other-than-gov't would have been nice also, but while the fault of it being law is Reagan's for signing it, the fault of it being in the law in the first place is Rangel's and all who voted for it, and the fact that it's still there today is all of our fault.

Ideally, we should not have to lock them up, unload them, etc. We should be able to just carry, as we see fit, and use as needed.

    Blessings,
    Bill

I believe that the law in Ohio is that the gun must be locked up and the ammo must be in a different location. If a Utah LTCH passes through Ohio do the same rules apply? It would be tricky to know all of the particular rules in each state.

States Recognizing Florida License / Concealed Weapon License / Licensing / Divisions & Offices / Home - Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services

"QUESTION 2. There are a number of states that issue concealed carry licenses but do not have a reciprocity agreement with Florida. Why?The State of Florida will honor the concealed weapon/firearm permits issued by another state PROVIDED THAT the other state will agree to honor the licenses issued by Florida. The states listed above are the only ones that have agreed to honor Florida permits.
There are a couple of important reasons why other states will not honor Florida concealed weapon licenses. Some states, like Connecticut, do not have statutory authority to establish reciprocal agreements with other states. Other states, like Minnesota, will not enter into a reciprocity agreement with another state unless the other state has concealed weapon licensing standards substantially similar to their own."

You can also go here. If you scroll down, there's a list of recent changes

Oh yeah, and the lifetime license is going away, too.:):

There's an app I downloaded called CCW that shows the reciprocity. It wasn't a free app but it was like $1.99 or something. Nice for a quick check!

Here is a new map showing what states honor Indiana.

Thank you, Gary. For those of you keeping track at home, that's 31 states where we can lawfully carry.

When member "Legba" started this thread back in 2008, we started with 25, so we've gained an average of just under one state a year, and if Mr. Pence would have sent that letter when we asked, we WOULD be at one state a year, with WV ready to recognize us.

I don't hold a lot of hope for the others (Certainly not New England or the West Coast) but I'm also reminded of another graphic I've been maintaining, showing the progress from "No recognition of the Right to Carry", to "Constitutional Carry". I've not updated it for 2014, I don't think, nor for 2015, obviously, as the votes aren't all in, but I'll get to that as soon as I can. I was very, very pleased to finally remove the last of the "red", indicating no recognition of the right, from that map, with the Heller and McDonald decisions.

I would be ecstatic to remove all the red from this one as well.

    Blessings,
    Bill

I wonder if it should be pointed out that you can have a gun in a vehicle with a permit from your home state?
    RV/Car Carry Without A Permit/License
You can’t carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle without a valid Permit/license.
Section 40 (e) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm within his or her vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within his or her vehicle and the non-resident:
    (1) is not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law;
    (2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence, as evidenced by the possession of a concealed carry license or permit issued by his or her state of residence, if applicable; and
    (3) is not in possession of a license under this Act.
If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act. (Source: P.A. 98-63, eff. 7-9-13.)

WV still being red kinda pisses me off. I know a bunch of us wrote to the Gov and The AG. I never even received a response or even acknowledged my letters.

My letter to the Governor was answered by ISP. They told me they would not make any effort to change another state's laws. I responded that I knew that and didn't expect them to; I had written to the Governor to take the action he could take that would change our status with their state, and that I knew that changing another state's law is not their role nor within their power. I got a reply (from ISP) on that, acknowledging that he saw what I meant.

    Nothing more.

    *sigh*

I hate to say it this way, but maybe a contribution to his campaign fund would get that letter written?

    Dunno. :dunno:

    Blessings,
