Ruger LC9 is a good choice IMHO. There is a thumb safety to have to manipulate - might be a deal breaker for some but I find that it engages and disengages easily enough. It's a matter of trianing as far as I am concerned...

It is pretty streamlined and presents well without snagging. Decent sights but it has quite a trigger pull on it (looooooong). If you really like the firearm (and I do) you can send the trigger bar and hammer in to galloway and they will to a trigger job on it which reduces the weight of the pull a bit and allows the trigger to break sooner. It's still a long enough pull that I wouldn't worry about pocket carry with respect to an AD. The slide locks back after the last round is fired as well. Single stack mag makes the profile pretty slim. Mine came with 1 mag but they included both the flat mag plate and the pinky extension.

The only thing I really don't like about it is the LCI. It doesn't obstruct LOS but is a bit gawdy in my opinion. They make an aftermarket spacer to replace it as well. You can physically see the brass of a loaded round when it is chambered, so the LCI is unneccessary.

Reasonably priced - especially used. :twocents:

    Very good LC9 review.
I know that many in the gun world don't appreciate the loaded chamber indicator (it raises up and can be seen and felt with the fingers if you rub it along the top of the gun) or the manual safety, or the magazine disconnect safety but I like all those features. You've got to look at what that pistol is for - up close and personal. If I get in a jam, (say low light situation) I can manually feel to see if I have one in the chamber. The manual safety can slow down someone if they get a hold of my piece) and the magazine disconnect gives me a way to disable the gun if it's being wrestled away from me.
It fits nicely in a front pocket with a pocket holster - I'm sticking with this one for a while.

This (and the rest of the post).... very well said. LC9 is my primary carry and the strengths and weaknesses are very well highlighted here. That said, I like it for the purpose I carry for and it's easily concealable with the factory, tuckable holster it comes with. :twocents:

EDIT: Sorry folks, I misspoke - the holster I have for it was thrown in by the seller, it's not a factory holster. The point was that the weapon is easily concealable even in a cheap holster. Sorry!

Have been happy with the SR9c, certainly recommend checking them out as you research and handle the choices you are considering...

I just picked up a Walther PPS and like it a lot.
It's a bit bigger than the Kahrs and Nano, but still light and thin. It might be too big for a pocket, but would go IWB great. I really like that I can get a grip on it with the 7 round mag.

Well, is anyone (in the Michiana area) willing to let me try out any of your suggested pistols? Obviously, I'd let you shoot something of mine in return.

springfield xd subcompact. I like this choice because of the choice in magazine that comes with the gun. You have an extended mag that comes with it to give you a full grip if you want to take it shooting and a flush grip for concealing it. This is a especially a good choice for someone that doesn't have a bunch of different kinds of guns and they can comfortable shoot at the range with a full grip and also have a nice small conceal weapon.

You can get a new Glock at zx guns in Goshen for $469. At least that is the price on the website. They should honor it.

    Or buy used.

I like the Glock 19. Full grip, light, and concealable. Cheap to shoot as well.

Regardless of whatever caliber you choose for carry, make sure you can work it effective when SHTF. My personal preference is that I don't like small pocket guns as a primary carry aside from them being back up guns or for when I jog or go to the gym. I prefer a compact/subcompact that isn't too small to work with like my XDM-9 compact. Small is good, but I don't like it too small.
