I just have a problem with the timing. There's still a chance Paul could get the nomination. OH, wait, that's the argument for the other discussion.

Seriously, I see the merits of legal resident (that would be a big fat 'no' to citizenship) offered up to those who spent all but months or mere first years of their life on this soil. No matter how good the idea is, it's timing is suspect. And poor. He could have done this at any point in his administration, particularly if it's so darn "right thing" to do. Yet for the last 3 years he and Big Sis have been preaching about how the administration has no such authority and POTUS can't initiate/carry this out on his own (i.e. it requires Congressional action). Suddenly, mere months before the election, he evolves (lies?) again. But he's not pandering to the hispanic/latino/illegal vote at all, right?

To top it all off, they still are technically illegal, unless in lieu of deportation they automatically get fitted with papers establishing legal residency. Absolutely let's just add another million people to the job-seeking crowd. Brilliant.

Senator Rubio has offered up legislation to clean up the immigration mess. We have to get rid of the restrictions that the unions forced on us under LBJ. Between over restrictive immigration (we used to have a great migrant program that allowed them to come to work then go home) and minimum wage, we make it too attractive to come here. Minimum wage laws means that too many employers are looking for cheap labor and the illegals are willing.

Better to open up immigration. that allows us to attract the best from other countries. Our population is aging, with 50% over the age of 40. And getting rid of minimum wage laws allows us to hire kids who are not worth $7 per hour.

I'm going to get blasted for this, but on the surface I agree with Obama here. Newt was right about this too. Now I don't know the details, and that's usually where I find myself in total disagreement. However in the overall principle, if conservatives start deciding to deport people who've lived here and thought they were legal citizens their entire lives solely on the fact that their parents never did the citizenship paperwork on them when they were infants (I have two friends that this happened to) then conservatives are going to find themselves on the wrong side of history on this issue. This is one thing were a reasonable bipartisan answer can be reached and should be.

How in the hell can they think they are legal citizens? Because they defraud the tax system? Because they defraud and abuse the system, that makes them American citizens? O is going to a pass to all illegals under 30 not born here. Read the article in the link:

No matter what this is a win for Obama. If this sticks, which I don't see how it can, he wins the votes. If it goes down, he still wins the votes, because he tried and the mean old Republicans want to throw babies over the border fence. Plus this takes attention off of the other screw ups he has been involved with lately. Big information is coming out about Fast and Furious, Polish Death camps, said the private sector is doing just fine, and a bunch of stuff I am not thinking of right now.

He needs a win really bad and knows it. He needs to give his media buddies something positive to work with, before they have to report what is really going on. No one has the guts to go after him in any legal kind of way. So what does he care if this gets shut down. He still wins.

i think you need to get more facts, illegals do not qualify for government programs, nor get EIC in their taxes,yes, illegals pay the taxes with the ITIN #, they get the ss withheld even they know will never get ss when they retire.
