Looks like your portfolio is already diverse haha

From what you have and what you might be interested in... 357 Sig would be the cheapest and easiest to get into. Usually just a replacment barrel for your 40 caliber handgun. Can be pricey but handloading fixes this.

The 5.7x28 would sure add the most diversity both in style of firearm and performance. Although its gonna be tough to afford to feed it. Handloading this one is known to be difficult.

6.5 CM has made a lot of people happy. Can be hard to find ammo with all the new 6.5 owners buying up what little ammo shows up out there. If you already have a 308 I wouldn't bother unless you wanna push it past 800 yards, then the creedmoor really stomps the 308.

    What he said.

I bought a 6.5 CM rifle in early 2020, right before everything went totally crazy with prices. Fortunately, I stocked up pretty good on ammo, just not as much as a should have (but then again, I had no idea what prices were about to do.) It's a great round, and I have no complaints so far, just be prepared to spend minimum of $2 a round, or try to scrounge for reloading supplies. Things are going to right direction with price/availability, but they sure have a long way to go yet...

Might help to know why the diversification, what your goals are for your collection, and what kind of shooting you do/are interested in?

Could suggest 243 Win, 300 Blk, .270 Win, and/or 5.7x28, etc., but without knowing the above, might not be well-suited to your needs/goals.

Some people would look at that list and say you have the bases covered.

Some people would look at that list and suggest trimming down the calibers and stacking deeper.

    Depends.

I actually try and restrict the number of different calibers I have. Saves me from trying to track and having to remember to keep stock of so many calibers.

Not 100% worked out mind you... lol.

Ended up with a 30-06 garand when I intended to end up with a 308 Garand. Was going to change the barrel on it, and... just kept it.
I may still, 30-06 is expensive compared to 308.

I did have one success I guess. Ended up with a Derringer in 45ACP, so it shares the ammo with the M1911A1.

I have 22Short/22LR goes in the same one gun, The shorts I saw one day and were an impulse buy, and since the gun I have takes them too. No harm no foul.

    12 Gauge (two shotguns)
    5.56 (four guns)
    308 (one gun)
    30-06 (one gun)

The odd one is the german double grandpa drug back from the war. Takes 16 gauge, but the nearly impossible to find 2 1/2 inch kind. But since I never fire the thing, a box of those will do.

If you reload, build a 224 Valkyrie AR

Right now I definitely wouldn't advise 357 sig unless you reload, it is expensive and hard to get while its components are not (except primers, of course)

.38 Special, it’ll lower the sting of those .357 Magnums. But dang guy, maybe quit while you’re ahead!

Sorry, but I don't understand that line of thinking. I go about these decisions a different way. I look at a type of shooting I would like to do, and determine the best gun/cartridge combo, or maybe one I would like most, to determine the cartridge for that specific sport.

I always wanted something in 45 Colt, so when I started shooting cowboy action, I got my rifle and revolvers in 45 Colt even though 38 special is more competitive. When I was shooting long-range handgun silhouette, I got single-shot handguns in 7TCU and 7BR since they were better ballistically than most. I got a couple 28 gauge shotguns because I loved shooting my buddies 28 gauge Merkel SxS. I got a couple calibers because I liked the gun. I got a good deal from a friend on a custom 1911 with two top ends: Centimeter and 38 Super. Look up the history on the Centimeter cartridge. Very interesting.

The following are the cartridges I reload for and I also shoot a lot of 22LR. My buddies and I have been shooting a lot of precision rimfire matches lately. Some at 50 feet indoors, during the winter. With spring now here, we are shooting some long-range rimfire matches out to 200 meters. That's a lot of fun.

I don't know if you shoot any competitions, but that's what I focus on. Find some types of shooting you like or want to do. Research and determine what gun/caliber combos you might like to shoot. That's the best way to determing the next caliber you may want to get. At least that is my approach.

I know this isn't what the op asked, but I like adding new platforms for the calibers I do have. I have always enjoyed handgun rifle combos in the same caliber. Maybe add a lever gun or AR that shoots the same caliber as your handguns?
And 350 legend has become very popular around here.
