    Another equally disasterous example was stalin purging Russia's officer corp and the result of the Finns basically fighting the red army to a draw, and how it was easier for the nazis to overrun the red army in 1941. Let's pray that the chinese aren't paying close attention.

    Seems like this behavior usually is about defeating internal enemies. That's a twisted definition of national security

    Politicizing a standing army is exactly why the founders were against standing armies. They can become a armed force for a tyrant very easily.

    World War II so far as I can tell.

    As for the Chinese, they don't have to beat us, they can just let us run in circles while they take the worldwide lead.
