Exactly. It is BS for people to say that this thinking is just something one Trump lawyer came up with. This has bounced around academia for decades as a possible situation with varied opinions on it but usually those opinions are hedged because they don’t know which side will attempt to use it in the real…
Yeah I agree that this is not a novel idea exclusive only to Eastman.

As a matter of fact, their current defense in the Georgia indictment was that it was not a novel idea to submit an alternate slate of electors to congress in a contested election.

They cite in their defense that there was a precedence set for doing so based on the 1960 contested presidential Nixon/JFK vote count in Hawaii where both parties sent their own slates of electors to congress over the dispute until the matter was resolved.

Trump and his team claim that they were only trying to preserve Trump's rights by submitting an alternate slate of electors until the matter in contention was resolved which they didn't feel that it was.

Seems to me like that was also the case in 1960 when both parties submitted their slates of electors.

@HKFaninCarmel Trump is not doing the mean tweets stuff you love to harp about he has really let that go.

All Trump did was call Joe Biden “crooked Joe” and briefly swiped Nikki Haley when he sarcastically congratulated ‘none of the above’ for beating the former South Carolina governor in the worthless primary on Tuesday. Currently, the polls show it’s all Trump until the convention. But the warning is the same: if we don’t win in November, we won’t have a country.“

The discipline Trump showed was refreshing, as we don’t have to worry about doing damage control when he does more harm than good at times. He was also probably aware of the time. Trump didn’t take the stage until after midnight on the East Coast. But it’s also true that Biden did more damage to himself holding that presser at the White House on Thursday night. If memory was a concern, Biden did himself no favors, especially when he mixed up the presidents of Egypt and Mexico when discussing the Gaza War.”

All our idiot nominee has to do is look competent this week and draw a responsible contrast to Biden in a free fall. But Trump can’t stop shooting himself in the foot.

It's one thing to say that we will not participate in their defense against a Russian attack because they have not paid their bills, .but where it gets off the rails is in saying that he will not only not protect them, but he will also actively encourage them (Russia) to do whatever the hell they want. You gotta pay your bills.

That is what he said. The media is grossly misrepresented what he said though.

Yes, they seem to be focusing on the part that I mentioned of going off the rails which is indeed the controversial part. There is no denying that.

This part is not the controversial part IMO. If he would've just left it as this, it wouldn't have left much meat on the bone to exploit.

" If Russia attacks, we will not protect you because you didn't pay your bills, you're delinquent." In other words, pay your national defense share. Now apparently this is in reference to fulfilling their dedicated national defense budget share of NATO charter agreements.

The following is the controversial part that left him open to MSM exploitation.

"Not only will I not protect you, but in fact I will also encourage them (Russia) to do whatever the hell they want. You gotta pay your bills."
