This ran in today's Herald-Times the Pravda of Bloomington. I don't know if it's a national cartoonist or a local one, but they don't get it. The Supreme Court didn't take away the state's rights. They reinstated individual rights that had been abrogated by they state (city). Rights that were as we all know recognised long before the city of Chicago was even a settlement along a stinking swamp.

They do get it, they just want us to live in their dream world where they have all control. They will stop at nothing to take our freedoms. These people have some serious mental issues.

I've said before, I would much rather have the federal government tell the states they CANNOT eliminate our rights, than allow the states to decide they CAN. If that makes me a bad guy, so be it.

see the libs, socialist, communist, all dont give a crap about the constitution and so they dont understand that the constitution is the law OVER the states, because it was ratified by the states. the states have the power to make and enforce laws and code not mentioned in the constitution as long as those laws dont conflict with constitutional law, LIKE THE 2ND AMENDMENT!! they are dumb. but when they want rescued or fed after a hurricain they are quick to call for help, by powers not granted to the feds by the constitution. what do you expect? they dont know crap, thats why we are being flushed.

i am a FIRM believer in STATES RIGHTS!!! I believe the states should all envoke the 10th amendment and walk the feds to the border of their sovereign states and tell the feds to kiss their bung holes.

States rights come after the 10th. 1-10 can not be touched by the states. Those are to be enforced by the Federal Government, which they rarely are now days. Im impressed that they did what they did with Chicago it give me hope that our system still somewhat works how it is supposed to.

There were no rights of the state shot to hell like the artist is trying to say in his excellent artwork. The rights of the people were given back from a CITY that STOLE them.

I sent quite a few e-mails back and forth with Bob Zaltsberg (editor of Herald Times) when they posted the gun permit database on their website. He basically kept telling me the same thing OVER AND OVER which was the 1st amendment trumps the 2nd. :n00b:

Of course with out the 2nd amendment he wouldn't have the 1st one :draw:

That's the truth. It amazes me how they are the first ones that scream for help when something bad happens in their perfect little world. They fail to realize that without the right of the average citizen owning arms that we would all be at the mercy of the federal government or another country...England perhaps.

Liberals believe the government would NEVER bother a group of "PROFESSIONAL" newspeople who support progressive (communist) ideals. That's why they don't fear the government or government control.

    Amendment vs Amendment

It's true that a newspaper editor has the right to publish whatever blather he chooses. It's just as true that law-abiding citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. We cannot deny him that First Amendment right and, fortunately, he cannot deny us any rights either.

I bear in mind that newspapers, as well as most other news media, are selling a product. Just like the hooker standing on the street corner, they have to know their customer base and provide a product the customer is willing to pay for. It just so happens that a college town is the perfect place to sell the product he sells. On a lot of other street corners, that hooker would be out of business!

As for any amendment trumping another, that's simply evidence of selective application of The Bill of Rights. None of the Amendments "trumps" another.
