As long as there's tall grass, there'll be statists.

Good read. The snare is closing. As weaker people get worn down under burdens, they seek the refuge of childhood in which Dad was responsible for their needs and safety. The statist architects see this and increase the burdens until these people demand intrusive government in the role of a parent without understanding that they are turning to the very enemy of everything they want to give those things to them. One would think they would have learned something from the Russian revolution in which many of the participants ended up much worse off than they were to begin with in terms of wealth, comfort, and safety.

I would charge that useful idiots and willful participants are often one in the same. They willfully participate in the expectation of personal gratification and in doing so are both useful to the new elite and stupid for believing that any of this will benefit them.

I think the majority of statists are youths, who would normally outgrow it (as is with liberalism). This had to be true in pre-Nazi Germany, since the Brown Shirts (SA) were mostly young men of military age, and as with Fascism, these young men intimidated the opposition with violence. It should be noted that financial destruction of the standing government does seem to be the trigger historically for this sociopathic behavior. I am concerned about our countries financial situation, especially with tagging on Obamacare.

Lobbying for and creating laws to control others for your benefit isn't statism?

No, not per se, depends. If one lobbies for a law that forbids punching other people, even if you fear being punched, that is not statism.

Statism is the use of the government to control economic and/or social policy.

So no existing laws are statist?

Plenty are. Most of the law is economic rent seeking or barriers to entry.

E.g., no booze sales on Sunday. The history of controlled substance laws.
